I have just read how Pacquiao had to be awoken with smelling salts and had to spend the night in the hospital.


The extreme viewpoints regarding Manny Pacquiao are inspired by Pacquiao himself, who is the exemplar of the "good guy", the public figure to best emulate. And the guy who an entire nation worships, the guy who epitomizes good character and a higher standard of living. It's no mystery that boxing fans like Jim Lampley are fervent about him.

The Pacquiao legacy is a thorn in the side of ner'-do-wells everywhere - people who don't play by the rules of fair competition, both in athletic contests and in their daily lives.

Role models like Manny Pacquiao are the sole reaon people follow sports. Take the N.B.A. example: when Michael Jorden left, the fans left. For they began to notice what was left - just overpaid, overhyped players who sacrifice their Team and coaches to accomodate their ego. That's why I left that fan base.

The Angel Heridas of this world strive to abolish fairness in sports (see my previous posting where he basically said legitamate top performances by athletes are impossible without P.E.D.s), for they believe the only virtue in sports is to seize every advantage possible, however illegitamate, however unethical. Winning is the bottom line, with the standards of ethics becoming irrelevant.

But notice also in that German interview where Herida acknowledges that there will never be a truly level playing field simply because of genetics. And that's the way it should be.
