Marquez and Mayweather are both counterpunchers, but their similarities end there. Looking to the Pacquiao-Marquez rivalry as an indicator of how Pacquia-Mayweather would unfold is dumb as hell.

    Here's why...

Marquez isn't afraid to take risks, go to war, or step into the lion's den. Floyd is risk averse.

Marquez is a much better combination puncher. When Floyd opens up and throws combos, his accuracy plummets. See Round 4 of the Ortiz fight and the closing seconds of De La Hoya.

Marquez incorporates consistent lateral movement to reduce the effectiveness of Pacquiao's straight left. Floyd could have made his life a lot easier against Maidana by using lateral movement.

Instead, he ran and clinched because lateral movement simply isn't a part of his approach to boxing simply because no guy Floyd has fought has ever called for it. Pacquiao is explosive on his feet and can close the distance very quickly.

Another reason why Floyd doesn't use lateral movement is because of his reliance on his reach advantage. Floyd keeps a very wide stance for balance, taking the sting off of shots by leaning, and maximizing the effectiveness of the shoulder roll. Again, it all works beautifully when the other guy has cement feet and comes forward in a straight line!

Marquez was only able to finally put Pacquiao down, and then out, because of brute strength and concussive force. Marquez was able to land similar shots in I and II, much closer to his prime, and never seriously hurt Pac or was able to drop him. In other words, Marquez achieved what he did through an extreme, long term doping program.

Basically, JMM and Floyd fight nothing alike. Floyd doesn't have the workrate or lateral movement to keep Pac at bay. He doesn't have the combination punching to win exchanges and he doesn't have the sack to go to war.

Pacquiao will destroy Floyd and everyone will say that Floyd got old overnight, but the reality of the situation will be that Pacquiao is all wrong for Floyd, has always been all wrong for Floyd, and will always be all wrong for Floyd. Why do you think he ducked for 5 years?

Then why do Floyd fans think Floyd will embarrass Pac to an easy decision?

Marquez is probably the best combination puncher around. He's a technician. I love seeing him string punches together. Even when he's an OAP he will still be able outbox people because of his technique

People think Floyd will win probably on the basis he's the bigger man with the better defence. With a unique style with hand speed to match Paqs (at least in single punches) Who has never lost a pro fight officially and while not a KO puncher he hits with spite and when he lands he lands clean - he doesn't waste anything.

I think its true pick em fight. You can make a case for either guy winning if it ever happens it will probably be a snooze of an SD

Floyd will in my opinion easily outpoint manny to UD and that's it he will not try to go to war with Pacquiao that's playing into his hands.

almost every boxer and boxing expert think Mayweather will win
only Pacquiao fans (pact4rds) think otherwise.
anything can happen but Mayweather is the favorite.

On paper, you have to give the edge to Floyd because he's officially undefeated (I had losing to Castillo and losing/drawing w/ Maidana in their first fight)... But Floyd knows more than anyone and he's ducked the fight for half a decade!

Same old recycled garbage. Come up with new material. This is why the mods have to keep merging everything.

The same reason you think Pacquiao will embarrass Floyd to an easy decision.

I agree with all the JMM > Cowardweather

But dont you feel Manny has been forever altered? Juan has CHANGED him. Im not saying ruined him. Juan's made him so much more careful in there. He's ben put in with feather fisters to get his confidence back, its clear hes still an absolute p4per, but do you really think he can cope with Floyd?

If youre looking at the Maidana fight for reassurance, it seemed like Floyd was getting by with the bare minimum there. Probably acting up in the first to get a cheap W in the second. But dont let those 2 fight delue you. As much of a ***** as Floyd can be, when it really comes down to it, he can go to war

I think Mayweather will have to put Pac to sleep to win. In their last fight, Pac was destroying JMM's face before he went lights out. If JMM hadn't stopped him there, I'm convinced a TKO would have been called to favor Pac the very next round. Stunning Pac won't be enough for this fight. He will be doing machine gun punches for all twelve rounds (with better accuracy than Maidana)and May's pot shots won't be enough to sway judges. I think it'll be split decision and Mayweather will get banged up a bit. Not a lot. He'll still look pretty. But a bit.

    There is one major difference.

One will actually sign contracts to fight Pacman.
