Nope, it began way before that, on a soccer field. EM reportedly was being very arrogant and dismissive of MAB at a charity event, the play got rough and EM said if MAB kicks him one more time (they were playing soccer) he was going to knock MAB out on the spot. Of course, MAB being MAB, he immediately ran over and kicked Erik as hard as he could. That was the beginning of the rivalry, before they ever got in the ring.

Re the Juarez fight, I was ringside and I thought the draw was fair. I also thought you could have given it to either fighter by a point or two without screaming robbery. Tough fight for MAB, I'm pretty sure his nose was broken very early in that fight.

That soccer story does'nt make any sense to me what so ever.
I witnessed several interviews right after of Morales praising MAB's efforts right after that first fight.

If the grudge had begun before that on a soccer field, I'm certain Morales would not have had any praise for MAB at all after that fight.

Where did you hear that soccer story. I've never heard of it and quite frankly I dont believe it as you described it.

Morales being arrogant?........and yet its MAB who goes over and intentionally kicks MAB like a little *****?

Since you're prevy to the story, what happened next?
Did MAB kick and go running to his mommy?

I suspect that the same reason I love MAB is the reason why you and a lot of others hate him. It's the disconnect between his presentation and his actions. MAB is just naturally a white hat kind of fighter, where someone like Duran or Pryor is a black hat type of guy. You expect ODLH type of decorum from MAB, and for the most part you get it. The big difference between MAB and guys like ODLH, Ali, SRL and the other good guys is that MAB is psychotic about being disrespected. He lulls opponents to sleep with the nice, respectful guy routine, so they start talking **** and BAM!!! No matter where you are, what's going on, who else is there, if you start talking smack about MAB within his arm's reach you're going to get punched, and he's not going to warn you. I ****ing love that. He reminds of the kid at school nobody notices until he punches the **** out of the school bully.

Nope. EM was the up and comer and MAB had supposedly retired, and EM didn't like the fact that MAB was still trying to stay in the spotlight as the Mexican grand campeon. I don't even remember where I heard the story now, it was years ago, I've been fans of both of these guys for a looooong time.

You're also correct that MAB wasn't very generous or respectful of Erik after the fight, he was pissed off. The IBF or WBA or whatever the **** org that MAB was champ of also felt strongly enough about the verdict that they didn't give Erik their belt. But whatever you know... you can't hold what a fighter says immediately after a fight against him. ****ing Vic Darchinyan didn't even know that he'd been KO'd against Donaire. A fighter is liable to say anything when his blood is up.

Thats just it about MAB, he was being vulgar and disrespectful of Morales numerous days after the fight having happened.

Voice your displeasure about boxing and the judges.

Evander Holyfield was on the short end of a few bad decsions during his career, and not once have I've ever heard him disrespect the performance in the ring of another fighter.

The same goes with JMM. He was on the short end of two questionable decisions against Pacquiao, and though he complained to the media about them, never has there been disrespect of Pacquiao uttered from his mouth.
The same goes for that whole JMM team who have always had high praise to speak of when the subject of Pacquiao has come up.

I guess some people never mature into adulthood, with the mindset that the world does not revolve around you and learning to give others the respect you would like allloted to you.

He didn't like Morales. Morales didn't like him. Sure, EM was a good sport after the first fight, he was on the winning end of a questionable decision, why wouldn't he be? Also, MAB isn't a good sport about losing decisions, in general. He has that in common with a TON of fighters, it's the nature of fighters and the nature of the sport. No point in hating for it. A lot of people think JMM was being extremely disrespectful of Manny for telling Manny to his face that he didn't think he lost their first fight and demanding a rematch while he was in the Phillipines at Pac's invitation. I've never once heard of JMM saying that he thought he lost either of his fights with Pac.

I've never understood, frankly, how you can like EM and not like MAB or vice versa. They're like an Oreo cookie, neither one of them would be the same without the other. Enjoy them both.

Marquez was a guest at a fight show in the Phillipines, where he btw got a huge ovation.

What he did in the Phillipines was publicly call out and try and secure a third fight with Pacquiao, but in no way was he ever vulgar or disrespectful of Pacquiao the "fighter" as MAB was of Morales.

:lol::lol:In an interview not far off from that trip to the Phillipines, Marquez had good things to say about the boxing fans who were there, many of them telling him they felt he had beaten their fighter Pacquiao. In any event, with almost all the Pinoy fans, Marquez expressed that they respected him and in turn he returned that respect to the people of the Phillipines.

Thats how adults should comport themselves Bernie......nothing wrong with calling out Pac in his own home turf (the crowd actually loved it) but as long as things dont get out of hand and there is respect to those around you.

I googled Morales Barrera rivalry soccer, there are plenty of references to it.

    http://www.hbo.com/boxing/inside/decades-best/multimedia/fights-of-the-decade-morales-barrera.html

    http://www.***********.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-192851.html

I'm sure if you made it your mission you could find the details somewhere. I'm not swearing on my life that this happened or that happened, that's just the story I heard way back when about how the rivalry truly originated.

    Thanks for the link Bernie.

I would guess that their rivalry as far as competing started on the Soccer field.......I however remember Morales in one of these Fox Sports programs depicting him saying that he (Morales) after their first fight, had given MAB I dont remember which but either a bracelet or a necklace as a remembrance of there matchup together.......It was something given to MAB by Morales that held sentimental value to Morales and he gave it to MAB as an indication that he (MAB) was worthy as a Champion.
.......as I understood it, when MAB went on his public tirade putting down both Morales and HBO in the days and weeks following their fight, is when the war of words and the hate started between eachother.

You see in the tape following their first matchup that they embraced and congratulated eachother after the decision..........and that is something that did not happen after fights 2 and 3.
.......which is why I insist that the "hateful" rivalry started with MAB's words sometime after fight one.

Considering barrera's age and recent prior perfomances leading up to this fight...I thought it was one of his greatest perfomances. I actually thought the fight was extremely close and could of gone either way. Tremendous perfomance !!
