Its always the biggest of MAB fans who have this opinion.........kind of reminds me of the DLH extremist in this forum trying to explain away and dismiss DLH performance vs Felix Sturm by stating, "It could have gone either way.":nut:nut:nut

.......its like these fans are trying to find comfort in saying it, but everyone else knows the statement is a complete joke.

How is it a joke? The concencus is that MAB won that fight. There's nothing to explain away regarding MAB's performance.

I don't think you have to consider his age or recent performances before that fight though, MAB was in his absolute prime. Junior Jones just had his number for whatever reason, it happens sometimes. Norton-Ali, Hearns-Duran, some fighters just have the right style to give another and better fighter a lot of trouble.

Had MAB fought with more confidence he could have taken that second fight, but he was very wary of that right hand missile of Jones.

Re Sturm and DLH, I was there for THAT fight as well, and if you want to blame someone for how that fight turned out, blame Sturm. It was right there for him, he just didn't do enough. ODLH was throwing and connecting, he just wasn't hurting Sturm. Strum was hurting DLH with that jab, but he could never bother himself to do any more than that. Oscar wanted it more.

I see where you're going with this though. A MAB hater. A DLH hater. You probably think Ali is overrated, don't like Arguello, and can't stand fighters who present themselves as gentleman in general. A big Pryor fan. Too bad for you.

You've lost me Bernie, I answered BigD's post in regards to his opinion of JMM vs MAB, you're off on a different tangent here talking about MAB-Jones.

Actually the way I've always scored it, and I've seen the people at HBO do it.......If fighter A was completely dominating a round and then was down from a flash knockdown, what would have been a 10-9 becomes
    10-10.

In the third round of the Pac-Cotto fight, Cotto was winning that round when Pac scored a knockdown.
When the round was over, Lampley was debating whether that round should have been scored even since Cotto had won most of the round.

That JMM-MAB round 7 before the knockdown was really bordering on Marquez winning it 10-8 without the knockdown...........you're going to tell me that in such a case that a judge would have been siding to score that round 10-8, he then is within his right to turn it 10-8 or 10-9 to the fighter scoring the knockdown?

You're OK with giving that round a 3 point swing if you scored 10-9 or even crazier a 4 point swing if you went with a 10-8 as Lampley was banana's it should have been?:nut

As Bernie has said, the Barrera and Morales feud began on the soccer field. It's not hard to come up with ideas as to why, they were both great Mexican fighters, there would be a natural rivalry between the two. For whatever reason, it got heated.

It's not surprising to me that Erik Morales was respectful after the decision in 2000. It's much easier to be humble in victory than it is in defeat, and when Barrera gave it a monumental effort and 70% of the attendance thought he won, I find it very difficult to criticize his bitterness. Morales stormed into his dressing room after the decision in the second fight, Divac hasn't yet referenced that for obvious reasons.

Back on topic, Juan Manuel Marquez won a close but clear decision but there was clearly errors made in round 7. The knockdown should have been scored, and then Marco should have been penalized for the blatant cheap shot. I'm not going to sit here and make excuses for him, he had ample time to stop himself...Marco famously has a wild streak. It came out in round 7. 9/9 would have been appropriate, and of course, we now know it would have had no baring on the final judges scorecards.

I don't believe Marco was a shot item at this point, he was very competitive, even to the point of some people...however inexplicably...scoring the fight in his favor. I didn't see his usual body work, he looked even more tired and rugged than he had in his first fight against Rocky Jaurez, and his belly looked soft. We can debate on who was more past their prime, Divac is clearly insinuating that the same would have happened if they prime for prime, but Marquez was in a much, much better place in 2007 than Marco was. No question about it.

Good fight, I don't like to watch it though, Marco was nothing like he had been.

Nady definitely screwed the pooch on that call. I was always mad that Barrera didn't get the credit for the knockdown.

And yes - Barrera was in the wrong for punching Marquez while he was down. I can't excuse it but I understand it because I think he was showing the frustration he has having in dealing with Marquez. It's a shame because it really was Barrera's last good performance.
