I went down to the bookies yesterday and put 4 grand on Floyd to win, i got 2/9 .. I told Keith my bookie that he may aswell pay me now so we save each other some time on Monday ..
Some people in the boxing fraternity are working out ways that Marquez can win but i see it as near impossible, if that word can ever be used in sport then this is the occasion. Marquez is a brilliant fighter and im a huge fan of his, in fact i think he's a better fighter than Morales or Barrera in they're prime, but he's taking on Floyd Mayweather, who like him or not stands beside Roy Jones as the greatest fighter of the last 25 years .. Floyd is 32, always in top shape and a true natural talent that would grace any era of boxing and be successful. Floyd is way out of Marquez's league. If Mayweather was taking on an early 90's Pernell Whitaker or the Mosley of the first Oscar fight then we'd be talking about a different story but hes fighting Marquez, who doesnt have lightning speed and he doesnt have dynamite power, the only 2 things that would trouble Floyd ..
I wanted to pick a round and get better odds for a lower stake but Floyd's attitude put me off, if he comes out and wants to put on a show so that he gets the 50/50 cut for Pac then this fight could end within 5 rounds, if Floyd is content to just pick Marquez apart and run out a slick UD winner then that will be disappointing.
Either way, backing a Mayweather win at the bookies is like buying money, even if Floyd breaks his hand in the first round he's still going to win. Backing Marquez to beat Mayweather is like backing Joe Calzaghe to beat a late '90s Roy Jones, at best a fanciful thought, at worst an obvious case of insanity ..
If for some reason the gods are smiling on Marquez and he somehow wins, then i'll cut my nuts off with a rusty spoon on national television, but it aint gonna happen people ..

Floyd to stop Marquez in 9 ..

When i win my bet then im going to use that as my stake for Arreola v Klitschko next week .... A few weeks ago i had a very vivid dream that Arreola would knock out Vitali with a left hand, Vitali backs Arreola to the ropes and then Arreola just swings a left that takes him out .. Its not very logical but i never dream things like this and these kinds of spooky things happen, i'd never forgive myself if i didnt back it especially as Arreola will probably be around 7/1 ..

I always find, as a general rule of thumb that if you know your bookie by his first name its never good news....

And a grand at 2/9 is a nothing bet. Not enough value in there. You'd want to be sticking on at lest five grand to make it worth your while because, despite what you say, if something unforseen like a broken hand in the first round occurs then your £222 quid possible profit on your £1000 bet doesn't look so clever as you're not getting any value for the risk.

Also, to use all your own logic as to why PBF is a lock then start talking about lumping on Arreola because of a dream makes me think your bookie is probably quite happy to be on first name terms with you

    This is nonsense
If your so confident about the knockout why risk 4 grand at 2/9 when you could have a much smaller bet on the knockout at 9/4?

And you could have got better odds then 2/9 anyway!

The most confusing part of it all is getting the stake right and putting together all this logic and then, as LeatherFace points out, not laying off on the KO at 9/4 with a smaller stake. You could easily split the bet and come out ahead either way if you did the maths.
especially if you trade on Betfair where some fool will always give you a stupid price.

If I was sticking 4k on anything I'd want something a lot closer to evens.

You have to have the money to lose. Sounds obvious but its not as hard to swallow if the money you stake is real disposable cash. I lost 10k on a football match once that was a right ******* because the team I backed to win at 9/4 missed a pen with about 10 minutes left. It was a real choker but I had the money to lose because I'd won a shed load of cash the week before.

Anyway, prices on boxing are usually shite

Did you really put 4 grand on? Wow.

I put £20 on Mayweather by KO. I bet on a lot of fights but the most I've bet was £60 on Pac to beat Hatton.

Well if Floyd is more than 82% likely to win the fight it's a good bet.

I thought long and hard about placing a bet. In the end I decided it was a go- the odds were too good to pass up, IMO. So, I put the big money on a PBF UD. I'm so confident that the figure I bet is a shade over 800:yep. Watch as I rake it in, fellas:yep:deal.

Amittedly it's was on Boxpicks and not real money. Four Grand! Jesus! Like TFFP said, I couldn't watch!
