Marquez could be next for Khan

JMM would destroy Hatton. JMM vs Khan is a great fight though and the win will really put Khans name on the map.

 

The stage is set, i also have the faith. Khan needs to first take care of the 140 division this year by beating Bradley by the end of the year, then bring em on anyone.

 

I think Khan will probably only fight 3 times this and for me I would have a tune up in America vs either Paulie or Maidana. Someone to look good against for the Americans like those two. Then Hatton in a huge fight in Britain and then JMM although I would love to see that fight first but think it will come later. Whoever else proves themself capable of getting in a ring with by the end of the year/start of 2011 will need to be top class, hopefully that means Khan vs Bradley.

You say that but he is very wise, he cares about his fighters and not dominated by the pursuit of money.

I'm sure Khan appreciates his insight, instead of corporate leeches trying to flog him for the biggest buck. Just ask Mike Tyson about that.

Khan did well to come back from one mismatch. If Maidana KOs him in 1, that's millions poured down the drain. Maybe Roach doesn't think it's such a good idea putting a glass jawed fighter in with a KO demon for half the purse of another title fight - especially when it has the potential to be much bigger in a few years time.

so calm down, he knows what's best for his fighters.

 

Chillax, dude. I love Roach and I'm no hater. I just think that people should put his comments into perspective given that he isn't actually involved in negotiations:good. His feedback is probably always welcomed with open arms amongst his fighters, but in reality he can do little about what promoters and managers choose to do.

Schaefer said he's talking to HBO about junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan's American debut taking place April 10. "Amir will have his own date and one fight HBO is very interested in is Juan Manuel Marquez," Schaefer told ESPN.com. "Amir facing Marquez live on HBO, now that's a big fight isn't it," he said. Other bouts being discussed for Khan, include Paulie Malignaggi and Juan Diaz. But Golden Boy also needs to sort out the situation with Khan's mandatory against Marcos Maidana during a two-week window it has received from the WBA. Schaefer, who co-promotes Maidana, said his manager is coming to Los Angeles to meet with about the situation.

Whether he fights Khan or not, lightweight champ Marquez is moving off May 1 because Shane Mosley-Floyd Mayweather is in the works for that date, Schaefer said. "We're not there yet with Mosley-Mayweather, but if that fight happens I think the most likely date is May 1 [on HBO PPV] and Marquez would be May 8 live on HBO," he said. Possible opponents include Michael Katsidis and Juan Diaz [in a rematch of 2009's fight of the year], or the possibility of a Khan fight in April or May. "A lot depends on venue availability and fighter preferences," Schaefer said. "We also have to see what kind of monies are available."

Whatever headliners Golden Boy promotes on HBO in April and May, Schaefer also has undercard bouts to finalize and he's discussed various matches with the network. If Katsidis doesn't fight Marquez in a main event, one match could be interim lightweight titlist Katsidis, one of Marquez's mandatories, facing junior lightweight titleholder Robert Guerrero, who would move up in weight. "We'd like to put that fight together for one of our undercards," Schaefer said. Guerrero manager Shelly Finkel also told ESPN.com that it's a fight they'd like to make. Guerrero's alternative is an unattractive mandatory against Mzonke Fana, which HBO isn't interested in and isn't economically viable. Maidana is also a possibility for one of the undercards. "There are a lot of things to discuss, but there are lot of guys we can mix and match and make some great fights," Schaefer said.

 

Apart from Mayweather Marquez has been competive with everyone. So he has a great chance of beating Khan.

Khan is all about speed and movement - so that could give Marquez real problems too.

Should be a good fight. - I would give my vote to Marquez though. He is not a shot mexican like Barrera was against Khan.

Marquez is a solid dangrous operator - he was just outclassed last time by a modern great fighter who had every physical advantage over him.
