This is a good thread. A lot of nice technical observations from Bogotazo and some solid point-counterpoint discussion.

His whole fight game is based off his understanding of distance and timing. Its one of the reasons his defense is so tight. He knows certain punches wont/cant land from certain distance/angles. He doesnt hop around like JMM was doing agaisnt Pac. He pivots and takes half steps mostly. LOOK CAREFULLY. He isnt hard to hit just because of his reflexes.

Mayweather starts the fight circling to Ortiz right.

Infact in this video Floyd's footwork is superb. He is in no way flat footed.

I dont understand honestly what bogotzo and gander are talking about.

Floyd is using constant movement in this video. He starts off circling to Ortiz right landing lead right hands. He moves back, he moves sideways, he moves forward. He is not standing still in one spot. Nor does he invite Ortiz to hit him in the pocket. infact Floyd does very little inside fighting he pushes Ortiz off of him every time he gets close.

Good analysis by the OP. But, Floyd has seen Pacquiao's inability to cut off the ring, and close the distance on fighters MUCH less capable than himself. I have no doubt in my mind a fighter as adaptable as Floyd could reproduce and improve upon Marquez's effort.

Just because Floyd and Marquez are not the exact same type of fighter, does not mean Floyd is not well schooled enough to employ some of Marquez's tactics. Erik Morales was able to do it.

Marquez was using textbook movement to neutralize Manny's left hand. And an extra step back, and the threat of a counter, kept Manny's right hand relatively subdued, as well. Mosley (who was mostly on the defensive) used similar movement to keep Manny from being as effective, too.

Not to mention, Floyd has the size and reach advantage, along with superior technical skill, comparable foot and hand speed. These are the ingredients for a masterclass.

Erik Morales was able to perfectly emulate Marquez' style and gameplan to school Manny Pacquiao.....So your telling me that Floyd Mayweather can't take Marquez' gameplan and emulate it tenfold?

Both guys were willing to take punishment to dish it out. I can't say the same of Floyd.

They took punishment getting in a lot of unecessary exchanges.
