    Thanks for commenting.

I don't think that the difference alone can somehow prove Floyd isn't equipped to handle Manny. The brain, combined with Floyd's athleticism, is what has given him the key to victory every single time. The reason I focus on patterns is because of a quote Roach once said: "I don't look for mistakes; anyone can make mistakes. I look for habits." So while Floyd has an equal or better ring IQ to Marquez, it doesn't enable him to do everything and presents us with new questions that need answering in the ring.

One thing I don't see happening is Floyd walking Manny down early. If he does that, it will be later once he has control. Manny is too mobile and Floyd knows he will want to press and won't take that risk early.

I think you articulated it well. Though I don't think it was really a reckless move, just one he was used to. He's a frequent lunger. Since the KO he's gotten away from that 1-1-2 a bit though. But in any case, up until now, being negative has been a drawback for many fighters.

Good point in the video about Floyd never really solving southpaws defensively. Against Judah and Corley he simply relied on his stamina and athleticism to out work them.

Don't see that approach really working with Manny.

I like the breakdown but sometimes certain technical strategies don't tell the full story.

In summary, video states that JMM and Morales gave Pacman trouble because:

    1. They beat him often with the lead foot, moving away from Manny's left straight and beating him to the punch
    2. Constantly turning clockwise, not backwards in linear fashion
    3. Being aggressive

Floyd, on his part doesn't fight in this manner

    1. He usually moves backwards or forwards, in linear fashion. Floyd doesn't rotate clockwise but at times does the opposite - anti-clockwise as he did vs Guerrero and Ortiz. Corley and Judah exposed this a bit.
    2. Floyd isn't an aggressive counterpuncher

there were other things mentioned but these are the main points, i think.

When southpaws have given him trouble, Floyd has been forced to be more aggressive. He was unusually aggressive vs Corley and to a degree vs Judah in later rounds. Basically, when he's taken out of his comfort zone defensively, he resorts to walk down opponents and become more aggressive. This makes the dynamics interesting vs Manny.

If Floyd fights in his usual style, Manny will give him problems. Using linear back and forth movement will be problematic against Manny, who can close the distance really quickly with his foot speed. Floyd may try rotating and moving clockwise, ala JMM, Morales, but this may not be his most comfortable style. HE doesn't usually fight in this manner. I expect him to fight like he usually does, trying to use his check left hook to keep Manny at bay. I believe Manny's foot speed with surprise him and Manny will get him. Manny has to watch out for the check left hook... I think Floyd will be forced to become more aggressive in this fight due to challenges Manny presents stylistically but Manny isn't Mosely, Corley or Judah, guys Floyd could walk down and beat with offense. Manny can handle an aggressive Floyd well due to his foot speed and hand speed.

Floyd will be forced to think a lot in this fight and adjustments will not be rewarded as easily as when he has made adjustments vs other fighters, as Shawn Porter states - Manny is very versailite.

There's only one thing Mayweather and Marquez have in common, they're counter punchers. In every single other thing however, they're different. Even their counter punches aren't the same.

the other thing which is interesting is how some think JMM' style is a winning formula vs Pacquiao. Let's no forget, Pac has been h ell for JMM too. JMM has tasted the canvas 5 times vs Manny and irrespective of biased opinions, it's 2-1-1 for Manny Pacquiao. NONE of the fights were clear wins for neither except the KO, where btw, Manny was winning until he got hit.

Pacquaio has been absolute h ell for JMM, just as JMM has been h ell for Pacquiao. Case in point? using JMM's strategy isn't necessarily a winning formula, it's risky. The 4th fight highlights this. JMM was losing that fight and was getting his face re-arranged but got in that punch. JMM's strategy is an ALL IN risky one... This applies to Morales too, he beat Pac first time but then got TKO in his other 2 fights vs Manny. None of what JMM and Morales used are necessarily winning formulas, they are as safe as gambling on a Vegas casino.

    Glad you liked it!

I wonder if Sr. is bluffing when he says he's not watching tapes. Floyd always says "there's 5 ways to beat him" concerning Pacquiao, but the early knockouts aside, the one way to beat him is something Floyd hasn't ever done, in cases where it would have benefited him. So will he pull from history or do his own thing?

I'd wager that he's bluffing. With the quality of opponent, the magnitude of this fight, and his safety first inclinations he has definitely watched tape.

It would be funny if Floyd obliterates Pac only doing what he usually does. Somehow, I don't see it. If anything, I think Floyd's going to implement his usual style against southpaws, mildly salting and peppering it with tactics used by previous Pac opponents (e.g. Marquez and Morales).

I'm so excited about this fight. Watching the interplay between their respective strategies and tactics is what most intrigues me.

    Bogo's a great poster

Sees in Juan what i do, but is able to articulate so much better

Youve been quickly made a mod over there as they appreciate how much you contribute to a forum

Instead of being on a forum where people constantly hate on you, why not come back to your roots?

Serge, Loudon, Bailey, and my hideous nemesis CST80 are all awesome posters who you'd blend in with real well, and your expertise would really be appreciated

you can post on both obviously, but ESB is where your roots are, and no modship on a bland- and hate filled - forum can take that away

Yeah I think the same, he'll do his usual with a few nuances added in from what he's observed. Their distinct styles really is what gives the fight its flavor.

    Thanks Beouche <3
