Jorge Linares vs. Rocky Juarez

Round 1

Both trade jabs and size each other up. Juarez throws the first power punch with a right to the body that doesn't quite reach. Linares keeping a good range for himself. Juarez has an utterly ridiculous haircut, it's kind of like Don George's bushy rat-tail but worse. Juarez paws with a hook as Linares bounces off the ropes and keeps boxing Juarez at the end of his jab. Linares rips a hook that batters the side of Rocky's guard. Juarez is cutting the ring off somewhat but not getting himself squared up to land well. Linares is staying cute and looking sharp. Juarez lands a 1-2, and then a lead right partially. Linares continues to score with jabs and short textbook hooks. Juarez grabs and roughs Linares up on the ropes.

Round 2

Linares' jab continues to brush the forehead of Juarez. Linares' footwork is very tight and graceful. Juarez is a bit flat-footed as is his wont, and tries to jab his own way in but keeps getting jabbed on the brow or hooked in the temple. Linares is pushed into the ropes and hooks his way free as Juarez ducks down into his chest. Juarez jabs but can't reach the taller Linares' face. Linares scores with a body hook while Juarez is busy trying to reach him with a jab. Linares pot shots, landing very cleanly. Double jab from Linares. Juarez follows, bobbing and crouching but not punching. Linares keeps beating Juarez to the punch - sometimes throwing a jab after Juarez has already started throwing his own and yet landing first (and still getting out of the way of Rocky's jab). Very, very clear difference in speed.

20-18 Linares

 

Round 3

Linares jabbing and using the lead hook like a jab off the sidestep. His defense is very slick, particularly due to his footwork. Juarez tries sharpshooting with the right hand high and low but can't keep up with Linares' movement. Ripping side-swipe right hand to the body by Linares. Juarez covers up as he wades into counter-punches. Linares barely has to put effort into slipping the short and inaccurate jab of Juarez. Linares blasts Juarez with a right hand and double jab. Juarez gets a 1-2 to the body as Linares turns. Juarez blocks a double jab moving forward but takes a right hand through the guard. Sloppy last thirty seconds as their jabs deflect each other.
