He did the smart thing..take a breather by facing Salido, John, and every other unknown clown before taking on Pac 4 years later. He could have ended up like Jermain Taylor and I don't blame Marquez for not taking the immediate rematch?

    Agreed? No? Discuss..

I think he felt pacs power and he always knew that he got lucky because pac wasnt able to finished him after that first round injury. having said that, however he should have rematched pac and not ducked him because pac before was a happy go lucky lefty.

on the contrary, it was a big mistake for him too wait that long. jmm didnt learn anything. he got whooped by john and he defeated hohoom fighters. pac got improvements. jmm is going to be a dead meat ;)

assuming for arguments sake that indeed JMM ducked Pac (although I personally am more inclined that he ducked pac 4 years ago), it is actually a blessing for pacquiao. Remember that after Pac's fight with the thai fighter in the Philippines (where the manila ice allegedly made its debut), he had to cram to train against JMM. Had his fight with JMM push through, he may, i repeat may, have lost that fight. JMM has laid down the blue print to "survive" Pac when he earned the draw. Roach was actually elated when instead of fighting JMM, team Pac signed to fight EM because they will have more time to prepare. And in his fight with EM, the latter laid down the blue print for beating Pac.
At this point of Pac's career, he is simply an exciting but one dimensional boxer and technically sound fighters like JMM and EM could have exploited (EM in fact succeeded) this weakness. personally, I think pac became a more complete fighter only during the third Pac vs. Em

not really. jermain taylor was owned by pavlik and jmm-pac was a draw. anotehr thing is that pac improved as a fighter and fighting him now may be more dangerous that fighting him then. add to that, jmm has aged a bit since their last fight. i generally do not agree with your post

jmm shouldve taken the immediate rematch as pac was "all left and no right" back then...nowadays pac is a two handed monster...

Blame it to his handler for over-riping him.

Marquez owned Pacman the first time, and will do the same in the return bout.

nah... too much has changed in four years for the both of them. it will not be the same fight as four years ago.

and marquez didn't own pac in that fight. it was called a draw due to a scoring error. however, most ppl here agree that the best result for this fight after watching it many times over was a draw.

    Crazy talk.

Marquez would have won the rematch in my view (who knows now) and cracked the big time. Instead he went to a boxing backwater and got paid $25,000 for dropping a decision to a local hero as opposed to $800,000 to possibly outpoint a great fighter.
