Check this quote by Jeff Mayweather regarding Pac/JMM 4

“To be honest, the only reason there has been as many fights as they have had is because Pacquiao really didn't win those fights, It was basically Pacquiao trying to prove that he was the better fighter. He was trying to prove a statement, because if you already beat this guy 2 times and had a draw with him, you don't need to fight him no more.”

All personal judgments notwithstanding, that is actually a fairly salient point. Had Pacquiao ever knocked Marquez out, that would have been the end of that. The only reason this rivalry went as long as it did is because of the Filipino star’s inability to put his opponent away.

    Use common sense.

Juan Manuel Marquez is one of the most intelligent fighters today. When I say intelligent, I mean inside and outside the ring.

He is extremely articulate, analytical, and wise. I believe that is has been his lifestyle which comes fom his intelligence that has allowed him to become a great fighter and have this kind of success at his age.

    Here it goes:

Juan Manuel Marquez truly feels he beat Pacquiao 4 times.
Juan Manuel Marquez was ****ed over by Bob Arum after the 1st Pac fight when Arum saw a bigger money fight if he paired Morales who was more known, but more battle worn than JMM with Pac, leaving JMM completely out of negotiations.

JMM is made to work his way back to a rematch he should have gotten immediately considering the controversy of the first fight where he dominated after round 2. Fans weren't too happy with the results, save a *******s. Finally, YEARS LATER, when Arum feels Pac is at his best and JMM on the decline, after JMM has gotten older, Arum gives Pac an opportunity to clearly beat JMM to erase that cloud of doubt lingering over the Pacman.

In the rematch, JMM clearly out points Pac. Most fans and Many media outlets, especially Philipino media outlets agree that JMM won the fight.
It seems JMM was a victim of Top Rank and HBO greed, considering Pac was the Cash Cow and him losing to JMM would not make FINANCIAL sense.

Doubt lingered over Pac's head. If he can't beat JMM, how is he going to beat Floyd, considering that Floyd dominated JMM (Remember you have to sell fights considering boxing is a business).

So they wait for JMM to look like he is slowing down, and getting older, and they bring him up to yet another division higher, in an attempt to get the Cash Cow more credibilty as far as his chances with the other best Counter puncher and to erase doubt from the fans. This is where Pac was supposed to KTFO Marquez once and for all!!!!!
JMM goes on to humilate Pacquiao in the 3rd fight, yet again, is ROBBED. Arum apologizes to JMM and tells him "its just business". **** that!

So after Cotto telling Pac to "**** OFF with the catchweights", and Mayweather telling Pacquiao to "**** off unless he takes the TEST", and after the two big flops of fights Pac has had, JMM who is even now much older, and was KD by a contender is made to move up again...This is where Pac was supposed to really finally KO JMM :patsch, and this time JMM destroys Pac, leaving no doubt! Making a statement! and Telling Top Rank, Pacquiao, HBO, and all those who low balled him and ripped hiim off a BIG **** YOU!

JMM beat Pacquiao 4 times, but Pac's marketability robbed JMM of his glory earlier.

So again, after JMM getting the W after being treated like **** by Pac's team for almost a decade, being ripped off, and being disrespected, why does JMM owe Pac anything?

Marquez is right. His fans rather see him fight someone new. He just got done conquering his main rival, and we're happy with it. It's his rival's fans who won't be happy until Marquez is forced into killing him.

Agreed, Marquez and Manny cleaning house over the next year would be great to see. Lots of exciting fights to be made. If Manny looks in the same form he was for fight 5, then the Floyd fight should still be a priority. But as you say, at this point their legacies are solidified. You just never know what could happen though.

    Exactly.

He still could have easily ignored a third fight if he wanted to and no one would have complained about it.

If you mean Pac, he could have.. But he was also running out of opponents not named Mayweather to face, and figured they'd be able to convincingly beat JMM finally. Pac was not taking these rematches to be nice to JMM, not sure why people act like that's the case...

If you mean Marquez, he wanted that official W over Pac.
