The only thing separating the two was 3 close, controversial decisions. I think saying "He was past his prime" is a poor excuse for a loss. A free pass if you will.

    My thoughts exactly.

This is where opinions differ.... There truly is no right or wrong answer, just a poll to go along with this discussion. But, having several esbers come forth and say that Marquez is the better Boxer is quite satisfying.

    :good

You see this is the problem in the way we rank Great Fighters.... Fans like you wanna harp on and on about their accomplishments, instead of the looking at the big picture. Both wins and losses are to be taken into account, instead of skimming through a fighter's record!

KO6 is the most significant outcome to a fight over the past few years. It's the biggest upset, biggest shock we've seen since RJJ was KO2, and as time goes on there will be more and more substance to what what I say.

That is, unless Pacman wins a 5th fight (this is for you assholes who like to dig **** up).

Doesn't matter for ranking Marquez over Pacquiao. Pac's resume is ridiculous and he still holds 2 official wins over Marquez anyway.

Weak, 2 close decisions don't hold a candle to KO6

Which is the most recent fight on both fighters records....

I'm shocked that even 18 people have ranked JMM above Pacquiao in terms of greatness. Pacquiao's resume is phenomenal, certainly one of the best of the last 15 years if not the best.

In ways, it does. Pac has 2 official wins, Marquez has 1. But ok, if you want to go that route then I won't even need to use those fights. The rest of their resume is clearly in favor of Pac. Its shocking that this is even up for debate.

Since this is your line of argument, can you explain again, why isn't this like Tarver RJJ?

Fair enough, at least you explain yourself. Last night I was banging with a few people as this got moved to The General, but I'm not going to roll in the gutter anymore.

I'll admit (would be silly to think otherwise) that Pacman did collect more heads during his career, but my title reads "Marquez is Greater than Pacquiao". When I say the two fought each other, opposing views will run to Pacman's resume. I just feel that in the process of going back to Pacman's resume we are ignoring KO6, which is the most significant outcome in all of Boxing that is of recent memory.

I think in RJJ's situation it's clearly a case of a man beating himself :deal. Not so much with Marquez, who finally caught up to my man Pacquiao. Marquez has been nipping at the heels of Manny Pacquiao for the better part of the decade, where RJJ made a terrible career move and paid dearly for it. Some call it being past your best, I call Juan Manuel Marquez, Manny Pacquiao's worst nightmare.

    :thumbsup

No, you're just a desperate *******. It would be much stranger if Manny had taken that punch and simply gotten up fine. Two colliding masses like that will produce a devastating affect. This is boxing.

Diaz and Katsidis were both FOTY. To say people don't talk about his fights is simply ignorant.

Marquez has KO6 on his resume, and Pacman has a big L at the top of his.

Once again, we are ignoring the big picture.

And Tarver proved to be Roy's worst nightmare. Sure Roy had to drop weight, then he won a close dec. The next 2 Tarver bouts went much worse for him. Similarly Pac has been accruing mileage much faster than JMM since the 2nd bout, fighting all these bigger guys may have caught up with him.

    how about Barrera Jones?

You got nothing other than speculation, besides, OSDT is something Pacman ducked for years.

We are discussing who is the Greater Boxer here, shoot a PM or make a thread if you wanna speculate. Or continue to be ignored by me in this topic.
