:huh Floyd Mayweather Jr and Juan Manuel Marquez are due in London next week as part of their media tour to promote their bout on July 18. The fight - the first of Mayweather's comeback, was announced in Las Vegas (where it will take place) on the day of the Hatton-Pacquiao fight. There will be three stops on the media tour - Los Angeles, New York and London, kicking off on Sunday. "Now that Floyd is back, we need to let the world know it," Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, said. "The fight against Marquez will be one to remember and I am looking forward to getting on the road so the media and the fans can really get a sense of how great July 18 will be for the sport of boxing." Plans are still quite loose for London, but the boxers arrive on an overnight flight from New York and will hold a press conference on Thursday for media members only. There are also plans for Mayweather, the five-weight world champion, to hold a workout on the Friday that will be open to members of the public. "Mayweather and Marquez are two of the best, therefore it is fitting that they will be making appearances in three of the best cities in the world," Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, said. "This fight has universal appeal with Mayweather stepping back into the ring and accepting the challenge of the great Juan Manuel Marquez. I know fans around the country and around the world will want to be a part of this unprecedented night of boxing."
Ishy I have read something on this also. The one I read said that the only presser which is 'Press Only' is the one in New York. I work in MK so might go down on the Friday to watch this. Any ideas what gym ??
I'd be interested in what gym as well as I'm going to be back in London next week...is it invite only or can you jsut turn up?
Gareth Williams of Hatton promotions said there first Sky show will be in July and the UK leg of an American show. But they don't have many fighters do they?
It says it'll be open to members of the public so i'd guess you just go along and watch. I'll be there
if it is open to the public, it will be pretty empty. Neither of these fighters have a particularly big fan base in the UK sadly.
This is what I've found: FRIDAY, MAY 22 @ TBD MAYWEATHER AFTERNOON PUBLIC WORKOUT *OPEN TO THE PUBLIC* EAST LONDON, UK BOXING GYM TBD *FULL DETAILS TO FOLLOW*
Ishy - Cheers once again. It amazes me how you find all these things. No doubt you'll be first to know when its announced
