Marquez - Most overrated fighter of this era?

Pac had 4 fights at Featherweight and he is top 3 Featherweight of ALL TIME

Marquez drew(Won in my card) and won at least 8 rounds on the 1st Pac fight at featherweight, and over 40 fights at that weight, yet he is Top 15 Featherweight? and Pac is top 3? You ever heard of Pep? Sanchez? Saldivar? Armstrong? Saddler? Kid Chocolate? Arguello?

Mayweather had 4 fights at lightweight, Loosing one of those fights to Castillo, yet he is top 3 Lightweights of all time? Have you ever heard of Duran, Benny Leonard, Carlos Ortiz, Pernell Whitaker, Tony Canzoneri, Armstrong, Julio Cesar Chavez.

If anything Mayweather and Pac are incredibly overrated, I've seen them on peoples top 20 ATG lists, even Top 10:bart, Never seen Marquez as a top 40 ATG let alone top 20.

 

Yet a full grown far more experienced Mayweather couldn't even stop an over the hill, 36 year old Marquez fighting at WELTERWEIGHT for the 1st time, 4 weight divisions from his natural weight. :rofl

 

Floyd never got of first gear in that fight. he pitied Marquez

 

Its a great resume and fought the best fighters at the time in those divisions. He didnt take on an easy opponent like Pac did with David Diaz Juan took on Casa the #1 lightweight and Juaan Diaz. You say Casa was ancient at 38 well surprise surprise how old you think the Marquez that just fought Pacman? The majority of fans believe Juan was robbed in the Norwood, John, and Pacquiao fights so only clear loss is vs Floyd. Pacman might have the better names, but Juan fought most of his opponents at their best or close to it.

People think just because Welterweights are the more recognized fighter that they are on another level than less known fighters.

That's the magic of styles. Aren't you a fan of marquez? Your just degrading his accomplishments.

And does getting a close fight with a rival take away all the other things he's done in his career ?

I agree with you.
He lost to Chris John, a paper champ from Indonesia.
He got tagged by average fighters like Jaca and Jandaeng. He almost lost to antique Casa. His record is nothing to crow about.

 

what really shows his complete ignorance is not that he ranks Pac top 3 with only tree fights but that it is maybe the strongest division in boxing ever with Saddler, Sanchez, Willi Pep, Armstrong, Nelson and so on

 

He was absolutely robbed by Chris John in Indonesia who remains otherwise undefeated to this day.

He dominated and knocked out Jaca and Jandaeng while switching to a more aggressive style to please the fans and secure a profitable future in his career.

He purposefully gave Casamayor the first few rounds before becoming the first to knock him out at a time that he was still clearly the best lightweight in the division.

Then you have his entire featherweight/super-featherweight and lightweight career consistently fighting (and often dominating) top-ranked opponents which you just brushed over completely for either lack of knowledge, overt bias, or perhaps both. Try again.

 

JMM is great fighter and it was an honor for me to watch him fight in some of the best fights I've seen live like Pac-Marquez 1,2 and the Diaz and Katsidis fights. I think that he is better than his resume suggest but obviously we could not put everyone in the top 50 or 60 ATG list in a sport with 100 years of history. In my mind he should be somewhere between 100-80 ATG just behind fighters like ODH, Morales, Bareara, Tyson

 

I've said on here for a while leading up to the Pacquiao fight that I thought he was underrated. There was a thread on whether he was HOF or something only a couple of weeks ago
