Not really, he's just more effective because of his dig. Diaz had much better skills overall and applied pressure much more intelligently.

Yes really. Rios puts more mental pressure on you and his punches are more compact. It's not JUST because of the power that makes him 'more effective'. Diaz could be eaten up in places a good pressure fighter shouldn't be.

Rios would be a tougher fight for Marquez, imho.

I think Rios is a more intelligent at applying pressure than he's given credit for, it's not like he relies solely on what is usually a significant advantage in size or anything, he's quite adept at cutting the ring off, little side-steps to close off the angles, etc. Factoring in the fact that Marquez's feet will dictate that he can't outmaneuver Rios, this'll be a real interesting one I think.

The Katsidis fight would've been a LOT closer if Katsidis knew how to throw a proper right hand, in my opinion. Marquez is still a master of positioning his feet in order to counter, so when he figured that all he really had to look out for was the left hook he was able to counter Kats to death. He didn't have that luxury with Diaz, and thus he was arguably behind on the cards before the finish. While I think that version of Diaz is a superior all-rounder to Rios, this is still an older Marquez here, against a far more physically imposing fighter who - importantly - in my opinion isn't anywhere near as open to those counter-uppercuts as Diaz and Katisdis. He'll be under constant pressure, which while maybe not being as high-octane as the latter duo, will put a far greater strain on him mentally.

It's a toss-up for me as of right now.

Rios isn't banging Marquez out. Marquez still has better timing, punch variety, accuracy, power, ring I.Q, etc etc.

He'll be in a war and probably down at some point, as always, but Rios' style leads to him eventually taking a beating. Marquez decision, in a great fight. He'll be way more resilient than anyone Rios has ever faced. I actually feel Rios has the perfect style to trouble Marquez's old legs, but I'm no longer comfortable against Marquez. I've thought he was coming to the end for years, and he leaves me dumbfounded and impressed every time I see him since the second Pacqiuao fight.

It's also led to him taking a lot more punches, but he's still the best all-round puncher in the game.

If it does come off, it better be at 140! Good for both men then, Rios is tough as nails, but Marquez accuracy and stinging counter punches breaks him down for a late tko, hed get stopped on his feet imo. Great fight for however long it lasts, and there is always the chance that Marquez age and wear and tear catches up with him.

This is even better than Rios-Gamboa btw.
