At featherweight, in their respective primes, would Juan Manuel Marquez have been able to defeat his two fellow countrymen? I'm a big fan of Juan Manuel, and therefore my view might be tainted, but I think they would be close fights. Any opinions.
would definitively be close...but I think jmm could take barrera...morales pressure would give him trouble for sure
C'mon guys, it's a valid question. Marquez never fought Morales, yet!, and when he and Barrera mixed it both were a bit past their best (Barrera more so). The question is whether Marquez would have been able to hang in there with either of the versions that fought in Barrera-Morales I? OR at any other time that you consider their primes. I believe Marquez would have done well enough with his footwork and counter-punching helping to keep the pressure off, but that he might get done in the workrate and punch resistance departments to both fighters. Close to call, for me.
Morales' reach would give him problems imo, and I think he'd lose a close fight with him prime for prime. Prime MAB I'd see him beating in a close fight. No question he's right there with either though.
morales would give him trouble, with that reach and how morales attacks..against MAB you all know what happend with the jmm-mab, but that was a past his best MAB, MAB has been into many wars more than jmm did. And imo from that fight i think a prime MAB would win a close decision, same with morales. All in all, this are tough fights to call and will likely be close fights
Who knows. JMM's career was so mismanaged it is pathetic. How he could be in the same era as Barrera, Morales and Hamed and have no prime match ups with them is sad. Truth is no one will ever know. Yet you will have guys like Kellerman proclaiming him the best of the lot without him ever having actually proven it.:tired
His career was poorly manages, and making matters worse, he was one of those fighters that not many were keen on fighting due to his defensive prowess, but in the end, I still tend to believe that Morales and Barrera were better than him when all were at their best. In my view: Barrera > Morales > JMM BUT... by no means am I trying to undermine any of them. All three men were great fighters.
First time I watched MAB-JMM I scored it for MAB by 1 round. It was alot closer fight than the scorecards indicated, it just so happened the judges went with the nicer crispier looking shots with JMM. I believe JMM to be pretty much prime in that fight or close to and MAB was alot further off(though still elite). So a prime MAB IMO would have taken it cleanly.
