Why the **** is this fight happening? Not only is this Cuenca kat unknown, but he's also only got 1KO in 43 professional fights. It's apparently an 18 year dream of Marquez's to be fighting in Mexico City again and it's being wasted.

Its called a stay busy fight, and considering the fact Marquez just fought the p4p king, and ended up getting shafted by the judges, he can pretty much do whatever the **** he wants.

It's either this or no fight at all, so I'll take it

Stay busy fights are cool, but why not fight a journeyman with a name?

On Golpe A Golpe he said that he was looking for a fighter with very good skills to keep him sharp. With so many wins and only one knockout, this guy seems to fit the bill. He'll also have to give less financially that way I suppose.

IIRC, the opponent isn't final yet, and there's a pretty decent chance it will end up being Mercito Gesta (which is a much better fight).

If he fights three times in the calendar year of 2012, then I have ZERO problem whatsoever with the move. It will not increase or decrease his stature (unless he loses), so it is quite low risk, reasonable reward. A fan who would hold it against him clearly isn't realistic.

Cuenca has one of the longest unbeaten streaks in the sport...might be fun to just end that

Makes sense. Wasn't knocking on the dude. If Mexico City gets to see him for the first time ever, I just thought it would be an extra awesome treat if he fought a semi-name dude.

Well Peterson - Marquez was in the middle of being made til the newly crowned WBA Super Champion Amir Khan threw his toys out of the pram

Who does that leave Marquez left to fight?

    Alexander - Maidana just happened

    Bradley is fighting Pacquiao

    Cotto is fighting Mayweather

    Mosley is fighting Canelo

    Morales is fighting Garcia

Alvarado, Judah and co wont go anywhere near Marquez

the only possible fight I could see being worth it would be Kotelnik or Mathysse, in fact im suprised those fights werent made

Yea I feel you, that's why Gesta might be more favorable from a fan point of view.

He's fighting this guy so he can come to knock his head off and not leave it to the hands of the judges. Plus he won't run like coward Mosley. He couldn't do that with PAC...said it but couldn't do it.
