Juan Manuel Marquez would have no more than 2 more rounds than he did. Mayweather won 12-0, 11-1 and 10-2. The cloest it would have been is 10-2, 9-3 and 8-4.
Maybe better to look at it by taking their respective versions at 130 in a head to head match. And in doing that i think floyd beats him a hell of a lot worse than he did in the fight they actually had. Though i suppose that is not actually answering your question, yes if marquez was the same fighter he had been at 126 but was a natural welter and did not have any size differential he would have done better. You have to take into account though that floyd himself is not as good at welter as he was lower down
Floyd would still win, but if Marquez was a natural 147 he would carry his speed, power, and timing to that weight. P4P Floyd is a better fighter but it would have been closer for sure.
mayweather doesnt fight on even terms he has to have advantages or the fight doesnt happen. He waited out mosley to get old but doesnt know what to do about pac because he is younger then him. Praying for somebody to beat him so he doesnt have to fight him. Most likely use the steroid excuse.
The better match up would be JMM at 130 vs Floyd at 130. I think FLoyd would have won but it would be a lot closer.
A better poll would be if both were at 135. Floyd's style then was a little more aggressive and open, and even though he was fast Marquez can time well enough to make it competitive. Guessing what a natural 147 Marquez would be like is too strange.
I remember marquez saying that after the fight and really felt like there was some creedence to it. Marquez hit mayweather with some solid headsnapping shots. I knew marquez would be able to hit floyd but when he did and floyd showed it didn't hurt, I knew marquez was about to be figured out and handled. If marquez was more powerful then i felt it would have been a different fight but floyd would have still pulled it out convincingly.
The HBO announcing team did not take away Mayweather's merits, and alluded to his many skills. .......but the fact remains that he fought an undersized JMM. Could JMM have beaten Mayweather prime for prime and p4p, is a fair question. The quicker and faster fighter usually has the advantage even in said matchup......but one thing is for certain......Marquez would certainly have better opportunities in a prime for prime and p4p match, given that physically size wise and strenghth wise, he would'nt be overmatched. Let me put it to you this way.......How do you think the fight would have went had every circumstance been the same as it was when they fought, but instead we change just one thing............ .....instead of JMM jumping two weight classes to meet face Mayweather, its Mayweather jumping two weight classes to face Marquez who had been proven as a Welter??????? I think in this scenario the circumstances change dramatically, because we now have a scenario where Mayweather cant use his forearm tactics to muscle Marquez away from him as he bails out from Marquez' foward aggression. Mayweather's defense suffers as well in this scenario, because strenghth in recent years has played a big part in the way Mayweather positions himself and plays defense.
your right the actually aroung the 7th or 8th round went on and on about Floyds skills then finished it with " All be it against a smaller man" by Jim Lampley.:deal
