well I saw the fight for the 2nd time ( 1st time I saw it I was super drunk) & I may be flamed for this, but even tho Marquez never hurt mayweather like mosley did I think Marquez gave him a good dance around. Money clearly out boxed him but it was nice seeing a good technical fight for a change. Even though marquez missed alot of his shots he tagged mayweather a few times and looked like mayweather had to think to keep away from marquez. And then the way marquez got up all fast after that knocked down was amazing it looked like the one he landed on hatton. I kind of even want to say Marquez gave money a harder time then mosley. With that being said if marquez comes in good shape vs pac not slow & bulky like he did against mayweather ,.. this might be a good fight seeing how I gave marquez 0 chance at may but he held his own pretty good.Flame away if you dont agree!!
I was thinking this the other night! After watching some rounds. I didn't post because of the **** that I knew would get posted, but the way Marquez was landing on Mayweather was done in a boxing style that is rarely attempted on Mayweather; feinting, predicting his counters, landing over the shoulder by exposing it with a combination.. I mean it was a shut-out all around by Floyd anyway, the speed, reach, and weight all being factors, but at an earlier weight, this fight would have been awesome prime for prime. I definitely think that a faster younger Marquez would have given Mayweather a real hard time. I don't know if he would have won, but at 130, or perhaps even 135, the sharp reactions and precise timing of both would have made it the ultimate chess-match of modern times.
I'm not going to flame and all, but I will leave it at I absolutely disagree with your perspective. There were points when JMM actually landed some punches and PBF would laugh and then come right back, never did I feel like PBF was hurt, remotely close to hurt, and/or hit with anything that made him question anything he was doing. He literally lost every round, I don't see anything about the fight that would make me or anyone else believe he "held his own". That being said, I respect and consider myself a JMM fan, but he was outclassed, overmatched, and completely dominated from start to finish.
thats because marquez eventhough clearly outmatched with 0 chance to win has a huge heart, he will never give up.
Marquez got schooled brother....I doubt he will last more than 8 rds with Pac this time around if he does Manny better pack it up...
I completly agree with he got dominated and had 0 chance but again for a slower bulkier jmm I think he did better then mosley against mayweather ( besides the punch that hurt may, I think that was mosley's only highlight ) then mosley was getting tagged all night and playing keep away as apose from marquez who kept throwing and dancing with mayweather. I was suprised he could not put marquez out considering the weight, reach height diffrence. Again like I said I gave Marquez 0 chance against mayweather i guess in other words you could I say I thought marquez was not going to do as good as he did I expected him to get shut out, maybe a ko. He took some mean shots from may and kept going as if it was a jab.
Marquez fought the right style against Floyd, but Floyd was able to just keep him off with his jab all night. Marquez couldn't penetrate and get in range because he was physically just too small.
yawn , fight was a mismatch . Mayweather is a horrible style matchup for Marquez, and at that weight he had no chance. I wouldn't say Mayweather was outboxing him either, just outspeeding him and potshotting for 12 rounds.
Marquez is a great counter puncher that is why he took Manny 12 close rounds twice so him hanging with Floyd was no surprise the fact that Floyd didn't go for the KO was bad.
I actually felt bad for Marquez more than a few times and was hoping that Nacho would end it. I completely disagree with you.
Guys, the OP is not saying that the fight wasn't a mismatch or that JMM was doing well, but that he was impressive in what he was able to accomplish and how he did it, given all the disadvantages, and that it may imply something better of the match-up at a different time or under different circumstances.
stop the fight? I never felt Marquez was hurt enuff to stop the fight or being overwhelmed with shots. I agree may completley dominated but it wasent like marquez showed signs of giving up or being hurt he came throwing and left thorowing ( altho missed alot)
