this is a joke fight. marqez has just re-established himself as a top elite level boxer this is a HHUUUGGGGGGGEEEEEE step down.

Lewis took on Tyson because he was obsessed with the man and wnated closure, atleast tyson was on a good run and earned his shot. he was considered the top contender even though he was way past it.

I imagine juan feels the same, that beating morrales would somehow put him above erik and marco. the problem is, morrales is not a top contender. victories over limond and lorenzo are good, but not enough. he should have fought katsidis next, that would be a good indicator.

they'll prob ake this for the wbc silver belt at 140, then when bradley wins the winner of this fight becomes a 4 weight champ. bit of a joke really.

So 3 of our top 4 boxers are either retiring again or taking on a wholly undeserving fighter. Hopefully Sergio will take on dzindzuruk/cotto and hopkins will take on cloud whilst he waits the winner of pascal/dawson. otherwise all our top 5 boxers will be letting us down the first half of next year.

Its a terrible match-up. No pun intended of course.
But its only a possible match-up for JMM because Pac
is ducking him yet again & taking the easy route against
& way past it old Mosley. Thats not a real warrior.
Pac should take notes & learn from a Martinez.
Now Martinez never leaves you with any doubts. He
handles his business against the best. Immediate rematches
best conteders available. Thats a real fighter. JMM always fights the best available in his division also. :deal

That finally completes the round robin among the 3 great mexicans - MAB, EM and JMM.

This however came few years too late.

I am sure no one is going to be knocked out. Even this version of EM is better than Katsidis because EM is a thinking fighter.

Morales is a proud Warrior. He most certainly could find some old magic and make it competitive in the early going.

......but in Marquez, we are talking about a supremely conditioned fighter. The type of conditioning that Marquez brings with him fight in and fight out, Morales quite frankly has'nt been able to bring with him since his featherweight days.

Imo, Morales can still have in him the ability skillwise to make it competitive.......but no way after all the years of permanent damage he's caused his body dehydrating his body and shrinking it like a dried raisin, will he muster the energy necessary to compete with Marquez past the midway point.

If you look at Morales comeback fights, the body fat he carries with him is noticeable.
You cant come in that way against a fighter the caliber of Marquez.......but Morales is stuck between a rock and a hard place. If he comes in lean, he has to come down past what his natural body allows comfortably.
He has to dehydrate himself.......and either way, its going to show in his stamina.

It only spells doom for Morales.
I think the best route for him is to go into the Marquez fight with a 6 round battle plan at hand.

.....go into the Marquez fight seeking to get a KO within the early portions of the fight.
Given his stamina problems, thats his only chance, but even that plan has a problem.......Morales has'nt shown he can knockout fighters in these higher weights.

......but at the very least that 6 round battle plan would produce an exciting fight and one in which the great Morales even in defeat can walk away from proudly.

One thing that I'm certain about El Terrible......he will fight to win, which should be enough to make it entertaining!:deal:deal:deal

    Solid point.

I mean we all know anything can happen in boxing, and with Morales getting past a live Lorenzo, he did show he probably has enough left to make JMM really try, for at least a few rounds.

marquez will win, no doubt, but even though em is a shell of himself, he will win a couple rounds.

Marquez is fraud.....A disgrace in boxing who cherry pick his same size or smaller than him opponent who is bum and loser in Katsidis and now a shot and faded Morales....Why not fight bigger and stronger opponent at higher weight...Fight who Pacman fought like Cotto, Clottey and Margarito....Marquez must not feast on bum, loser and faded and his same size or smaller than him opponent...

Marquez is the most coward fighter in history of boxing.....Pricing himself out of a fight is nothing new with Marquez....the first one was when he turned down the 750k and instant legacy build up in facing Pacman to a measly 30k dollars in fighting Chris John in Indonesia which he lost(schooled by Chris) and now wants double what he earned from Floyd which he was completely dominated for 12 complete round...Mosley fared better by almost knocking out floyd twice and made him do the chicken dance and held him for dearlife....Marquez was never a threat and he even went down with a left hook...Floyd fight with Marquez was the most easiest fight for him on his entire pro and amateur career....As if no one is in front of Floyd that night...Marquez is a joke at higher weight and still Marquez demands a higher price....And now will face faded and shot Morales for less than a million at lower weight plus no legacy that comes with it...That's ducking from a very scared Marquez....

Marquez went as far as the Philippines saying that he will fight Pacman even less than a million price....So, now he wants double what he earned from Floyd fight plus 5 dollar pay per view which he lost by a shutout...What happened to the bold statement he made that he will fight Pacman even for less than a million???He's not even competitive in higher weight???Why demand higher???Why price yourself out of Pacman fight???your not true to your words, your coward choosing faded and shot Morales...damn

from Scott of Examiner.....below is portion of his column.....

The recent news that lightweight king Juan Manuel Marquez would be meeting former multiple weight champion Erik Morales was met with mixed reactions by boxing fans, particularly those keen to see Marquez square off once more with long time rival Manny Pacquiao.

Certainly the fight is one that many were hoping for several years ago, and to an extent still want to see.

If Marquez is really serious about ever fighting Pacquiao again though, which judging from the countless interviews in which he mentions the fight he is, then he still seems to be going about it the wrong way.

Instead of taking Bob Arum's advice and putting together a fight with WBC welterweight champ Andre Berto, Marquez has now instead chosen to take on the badly faded Erik Morales. Another case of a fight that should have been made five years ago and will probably be rather one sided today.

Erm...well...did you actually catch that one? Not to be a party pooper, but Morales looked really bad and it probably wouldn't have been unfair for Lorenzo to have gotten the nod in that one...
