Two "of" the best wee men of our generation. You're forgetting some others. I would have no choice but to favor Marquez if it was to be fought at 126lb. He operated there more effectively than Morales, arguably, and his counter punch style would likely find the target more often than not on an offensively minded Morales, who was not all that hard to hit. That said, when two Mexican rivals are fighting one another, it will almost surely be competitive, close, and sometimes styles can go out of the window. If it came down to heart and endurance, Morales could outwork and out hustle Marquez down the stretch, but I see Erik becoming more tentative when getting hit with counter right hands. Marquez is susceptible to knockdowns. I pick Marquez by SD. Too many factors for either guy for it to be conclusive in my view.
Im assuming this is at 126 if we can agree they were both prime here the marquez at this weight class was too tentative, this favors Morales by wide but the Marquez now is that much better than the Marquez at 126 when he opens up 130 and above Marquez Below Morales
There could be a danger of Marquez getting outworked, but I also don't see Erik simply walking through a fighter of Juan's quality. When coming forward, Morales is not an elusive target, and he will be finding left hand counters, as well as the straight right, which has knocked out bigger men than Erik in the recent past. As tough and durable as Morales has proven over the years, he has been hurt before, and this would slow down his work rate too I believe.
It would be a close fight for sure and it definitely goes the distance IMO. Morales forces JMM into a brawl and beats him in a closely-contested 12 round war.
This would definitely a trilogy written all over...close exciting fights...but i would favor Morales...
Morales is a good enough boxer to hang with Marquez in ring centre & even better him on occassion with his superior jab & reach, he takes a better shot than JMM & hits harder too, I dont think Erik is the sort to walk forward all night & get countered to death, he is smarter than given credit for & a great counter-puncher himself, I feel he can outwork Marquez when inside also, Morales switches from boxing to brawling to boxing in just about every fight & he looks comfortable doing so, most fighters struggle because they get set in a rythm but this was a Morales strength. I could see Marquez being in the fight the whole way, even stunning Erik once or twice, I could also see JMM hitting the canvas, dropping a 2 point rd. Morales by close UD :good
Im going to say Morales. Im biased too but I also feel Marquez was more inconsistent back when they were at 126. I wish the fight was made. Though it could go either way. I would be more confident of Morales beating Hamed than I would of Morales beating JMM
Marquez wins a close one IMO. Morales would have trouble with the counter punching of Marquez. It's a shame that this fight didn't get made when it could have.
