Indeed John, Nacho Beristein is a marvelous trainer when it comes to taking a young fighter with true talent and honing his skills. Ricardo Lopez, and the Marquez bros. fight almost identical in terms of tempo and styles. You described the style as near perfect, and I would agree. The one weakness in the Beristein taught style that I've noticed is his fighters are not taught the defensive nuances in the fight game to ride the storm when they're hurt. Not that they have bad defense, they certainly dont, but there are things a fighter can do when he's hurt....... I think it cost R.Marquez dearly vs Israel Marquez. The thing that I've noticed is that I have yet to see a Beristein taught fighter clinch or hold on for dear life when hurt. The art of the clinch or holding on for dear life is a valuable thing to be able to do in the event you run into a big shot. When I look at how JMM survived 4 knockdowns against Manny Pacquiao, its really amazing that he did so without the aid of so much as one clinch, particularly that rematch fall in the 3rd round, where that left hand from Pacquiao sent Marquez flying to the canvas. That knockdown imo hurt JMM more than the 3 knockdowns that Pacquiao produced in round 1 or their first fight. Fighters get hurt and survive knockdowns all the time, but how many do it while staying in their rhythm and tempo, and not using the aid of the clinch? My point is that its miraculous that JMM survived Pac's assaults without the aid of the clinch. It just so happens that Ricardo Lopez, JMM, and Rafael Marquez happen to be tough as nails in the heart dept. For all there great skill, they are complete tough warriors through and through. ........I know I'm going a little long, but all this just to point to the one weakness in the Beristein taught arsenal employed by Lopez, JMM, and R. Marquez. The one weakness imo is that the Beristein taught style lacks is the clinch, or other stalling tactic to override when one is hurt. Offensively speaking, the Beristein taught style is near perfect, I would agree, add to that the ability to be able to clinch when need be, and you're looking at a near unstoppable fighter. Btw John, if you can be so kind as to send me that link you offered earlier in the thread, I'd be obliged!:thumbsup
JMM may be good or great if you want but too bad, the so-called technically gifted boxer is not even in the top 10 ATG of Mexico. After all.. the skills you are mentioning is not reflected on the resume. Like Velero, he might have an impressive win-loss ratio but the fact remains his resume is still not impressive thus still needs a lot of good fights before he can fight the likes a pac.. For the sake of arguement he may be better boxer than mab and morales but too bad his resume is way beloooooooow that of the two other mexican greats! No wonder he is not mentioned in the top 5 or at least top 10 mexican greats!
after seeing 2 fights, with almost the same result(meaning close). I wouldn't be surprise if a 3rd fight would have the same outcome. Marquez had his chance in the 2nd fight, he trained for 3 months i believe(started december). And he did a lot better in the 2nd fight compared to the 1st, but still it was close. If theres a 3rd fight, i would be expecting the same thing but just for ending the whole thing i would also like to see a 3rd fight. But after that whatever the result is(even if it is a so-called robbery again, or close gone either way stuff again), there shouldn't be any 4rth fight
Send it to me aswell please. thx. Just had a thought. If JMM dominates Casamayor, he could potentially move up to no.2 in the p4p rankings since hes already either #3 or #4 on most lists. He would then be the lineal and Ring champ too at 135lb. Great selling point, no.1 vs no.2 p4p for the Lineal, Ring, WBC LW championship!
LOL.....Only if you are talking about level on in the Game "PAC MAN". But in terms of Boxing PAC beats and has beaten JMM both times.....and once in a interview when JMM tried to beg PAC for a 3rd payday.:deal
Juan Manuel Marquez boxed your boys head off in both fights and then scared Pacman into admitting "I was lucky". Owned.
nah...Marquez recovered well and faught like a champion in a loosing effort only to get a gift draw that was well documented and proven true for the first fight. The 2nd fight Pac just beat Juan up more than juan did to pac and lost a clear decision to the better fighter in PAC. I'd still love to see #3. This time PAC gets the KO.
The better boxer may be clear as day in favor of JMM but PAC is BY FAR the better fighter which is why he defies all logic meanning that b/c JMM is a more technically skills boxer that he should be the slugger, but for some reason he is 0-2 against PAC. That's bc PAC is a fighter that has incredible talent and determination.
