As I said in another thread of mine, Marquez really has a shot at something HUUUUUUUGE, here, if he can beat Floyd. Something bigger than beating Floyd was -- and that is, the possibility of challenging JCC's status as bext mexican to ever box... n making that mantle his own! To do that, imo, he would need to win a title at 140 (off a decent young fighter: Bradley, Maidana or Khan) and then a 147lb title off a quality welterweight operator. I've no doubt he can do it at 140. Question is this, what sorta chance does he have at 147 vs. that talentpool of fighters. Can he beat Cotto? Clottey? Margarito (when back)? Mosley? or any other very good boxer who could conceivably be holding a belt Marquez would want in future to add a title in +1 more weight-class to his resumé. Could he beat Berto? or are they simply too big? and will he have to hope for a slightly lesser-able welterweight to be holding a belt... a much smaller name... and press GBP to make that fight for a title. Discuss.
for real, dawg. but who out of the welterweight crop does he beat / how are his chances. vs. Cotto? vs. Mosley? vs. Margarito? vs. Clottey? vs. Berto? etc.
imo. in terms of greatness of chances of beating. I go: Berto, Clottey, Cotto, Mosley, Margarito. Tony just throws too much & is too tall. Marquez doesn't have Floyd's 72-inch reach, either, but rather only 67". It'd be just like asking Floyd to face Paul Williams. Face a much bigger, taller fighter with a much larger reach & a ridiculous work-rate.
Dude, I gotta say that I have to see how big he looks next to Floyd in the ring honestly. But right now I'd say: Cotto: Cotto TKOs him late Mosley: Mosley TKOs him early Margarito: He may be able to UD Margarito honestly, He's a better technician then Mosley and may be able to completely avoid Margo's clean shots all fight....but most likely he gets caught and stopped Clottey: Clottey wins a close UD, I don't see Clottey finishing him Berto: Toss up I don't think JMM can hurt Mosley, Margo or Clottey at all. If he holds the weight well and keeps his speed and gains some strength: He can out box and possibly beat Cotto, Margo, and Berto He will never beat Shane or Clottey based on styles though. :good
