I love the guy and i'm delighted he won. I had Marquez wining two and three on my cards, three quite definitively. So I'm delighted for him.

But in those first two rounds, his hands looked slow, he wasn't slipping shots, he was easy to hit, he wasn't reacting to the punches coming his way very quickly, and he was being moved by Manny's feints and footwork. In fact, I don't think Pacquiao has ever out-boxed his great rival so cleanly as he did in one and two, and in the first two minutes of three.

I give him credit in for his introduction of body punches though, that looked great, and the punches he threw after the KD were beautiful too.

Generally out-maneuvered in the fourth and fifth, Marquez went into the sixth with points on the board only because of that looping right hand that he scored for the KD. He was out-boxed and out-fought in the sixth again and then landed that punch

My guess? Marquez had Pacquiao sussed by the end of round 2 of the first fight. Pacquiao's physical advantages just made it impossible for him to capitalise. Though certain aspects of his own fight game have suffered, Pacquiao's dropping off was more important as the physically superior fighter. That let Marquez in despite his own slippage.

So Marquez should be careful, because somebody weird might beat him now. I think he should try to make another Pacquiao fight, it would be really absorbing and he'd be a favourite to win it.

i think you could well be right fella.

but i think its one of the rare occasions where a punch that perfect can change "marquez wasn't that good" to "marquez was amazing"

    but your post makes sense

Yeah Marquez looked like he was outboxed that night until the right landed.

Manny's feints, combined with bad defense are exactly what got him KO'd.

Also, Manny's footwork is terrible. His feet are just fast. He has some of the worst footwork in boxing.

He's already won a best of five total.
I always said I was worried that a far lesser fighter could beat Juanma at 140,but the good thing is he shouldn't **** about with any livewires at this stage, and rightfully so.

But although I had Manny a point up,I was never worried, even with the flash KD(although I didn't think it would help if the judges were going to be a problem again.)
Always thought Juanma was trying a bit too hard to be emphatic though, yet look what happened!
So my cries for him to tighten up were rightly ignored.

I dont think Marquez went into this fight with a gameplan like 3 where his plan was to win rounds, survive and outbox

this fight he went in as strong as he could and knew he had to take punishment to set traps for manny cos everything was planned for that 1 KO punch which he was knocking guys down in sparring with (he actually hit Manny clean with the same punch round 5)

My impression was pacman would have gone on to win via decision or a possible tko on marquez but one punch can change a fight but one thing is for sure marquez can read pacman like a book and land his counters at will he just has his number through and through.

Don't think he came in even concerned to win rounds. He was slugging early on. And of course Manny looked very good, better than he has in years.

I want to see JMM against someone like Bradley to see how he looks at welter when training according to a more normal regimen, focusing on his footwork and handspeed.

No need for a 5th fight, Marquez has proved himself a superior boxer through 4 fights, I have never scored their first fight but a draw seemed fine, I thought Marquez won the last 3 fights though so no need for a 5th.

In a way, it speaks very highly of Manny that he went so long against such an incredible counter-puncher without getting caught with that definitive punch.

But I'd go so far as to say that this is the worst Marquez has looked in a ring with Pac since round 1 fight 1...and he's won by KO

    Great punches Juan Manuel Marquez.

Marquez clearly went in there to KO Pacquiao, not to outbox him.

Juan was sacrificing his usual pure boxer/counter puncher style it seems in an attempt to sit down on his punches and knock PAC out, he had bad intentions from the start

His gameplan was different to that of his other fights

Marquez won one out of 4 fights, but he won big in this last fight. Manny has lost speed, his foot work is terrible and off balanced, and he had won the fight so what does he do.....he rushes into a wounded man and gets KO'd. All Pac had to do was be smart, safe and take his time after round 5. But he tried to rush it and payed the price. JMM was done after 5, all Pac had to do was let the injuries take their toll, but Pac was not smart that night.
