Yes, it clearly did. I've already stated what a magnificent counter it was...

Look, I'm pretty sure I was on here on Friday predicting a Marquez KO win...

I am not out to get him, and I don't care either way to be honest.

Marquez trained and fought to sit down on his punches more. He did heavy lifting, Squats, and other exercises to use power as a focal point. It wasn't just talk for him to try to stop Pac he actually tried to do it as we saw. This created a consequence for his speed and reflexes, though, unless that was mostly done by age. The reason Pac lost was not because of his physical drop off, but because of his lack of respect for Marquez's renewed power. It's not just power but focusing on big power shots. Marquez had a neck-snapping shot at the end of the 5th or beginning of the 6th which really turned Pac.

I think all the rationale and breakdowns could be over-analyzing an incredibly flukey scenario. Pac literally propelled himself into the perfect, shortest, most powerful punch Marquez might have ever thrown in a boxing ring. And Marquez was searching for that type of punch the entire fight, and not combinations like in the first three encounters. That's what did it.

Of course it is related. You just explained the causality. The only question is how much of it is age or the training. I have been urging Marquez to retire too because his stock is at an all time high and he's obviously slowed down some. He conquered what he needed to do and now it is time to walk away in the sunset.

Although I absolutely loved the victory,I can agree with this, but it takes nothing away from the fact that JMM set out to take it away from the judges, and did exactly that.
I don't think even he would've predicted such a perfect punch on the absolute sweet spot.
It's one of the most emphatic executions of a gameplan in a big fight for years, and even if Juanma got slightly lucky when he got that opportunity to land,it's still a fabulous achievement.

    Great post bro. :good

Also, the calculated risk was extremely necessary because the judges would have robbed JMM had he outboxed Pac again.

I want to clarify that while the scenario was flukey I do not think Marquez didn't try to set this type of punch ought. He had landed some of the hardest punches against Pac than he had in the previous three fights. I won't say Marquez set Pac up but he certainly made Pac pay for his carelessness, and did a good job slipping the jab which might have been apart of the tactics set up by Marquez and Nacho.

You are right about the predicting part. Marquez couldn't have written up a better scenario then what just happened really.

JMM in interview told that anytime soon JMM could have been TKO or KO. Fortunately for JMM, Pac get over excited, and let his guard down.

I don't think, it's plan by Nacho, Nacho himself told he was surprised by the KO of Pac, Nacho did not expect it..

I agree:yep Big fan of JMM, always seemed to be the ugly sister when compared to MAB & Eric, he's a modern day marvel & more than deserves his day in the sun. Those Diaz fights were incredible, such heart & determination. I'm a full on ******* & although it's left me numb seeing manny flattened i did'nt want to see a proud warrior like Juan get hammered. But Manny was in full on killer mode & if that bomb had'nt detonated when it did i recken manny would have torn Marquez apart by the 8th with nacho throwing in the towel. It'll be more than interesting to see how both now approach the 5th fight.:think

I had Marquez up on my card at the time of the KO.
I will say this, that was the worst version of Marquez I've ever seen, in terms of movement and he ****ing KO'd Manny.

I am only theorizing now, but it is entirely possible that those slow punches were ALSO part of JMM's strategy:

Even young fighters, if smart, will throw some slow punches on purpose. This is done to throw off your opponent, so he can't easily time your movements and lock into your rhythm. Wlad, for instance, does this with his left hook. I was taught this as a young MW. Then, when you do throw the fast punch, it either catches your opponent off-guard, or catches him standing too close to you.

JMM probably figured, that Pac's team would figure, that Jaun would be slower in this fight due to age. So this would be an especially good ploy to use. As noted by Pete & others, Juan had plenty of snap when he needed it.

Pac may well have been locking into Juan's slightly slower rhythm, and so got too close with his guard down. Granted, Pac typically does this a lot anyway, but not usually against Juan.
So, combine this with the earlier body shots, (bringing Pac's arms down) and you have the perfect strategy for setting up a deadly counterpunch.

To quote that idiot Jim Lampley: "Bam!" :yep

I didn't know you were a Pacquaio fan mate.
Nice to see a post like that because I believe most JMM fans have a ton of respect for Manny, and it's only a band of idiots who fuel disdain with their idiotic claims about PEDs and ****ing toes!!!

    Goddamn man!

If Marquez is this master tactician and all you say he is it is a wonder that it took him 4 fights to win.

Stop being a dumbass. Both Pac and Marquez went into this fight looking for the knockout. Do you really think Pac is so dumb he didn't know what Marquez was doing?

Pac got overconfident/stupid and paid the price. Marquez was there to be hit and was beatable. He threw a amazing punch. Stop romanticizing it and making it more than it is.

    Right from the horse's mouth.
