Marquez preferred his freedom more than being Erik Morales' opponent in the main event of Saturday's card at the MGM Grand Garden.
Marquez refused an offer from Golden Boy Promotions to fight Morales and decided to become a free agent when his contract expired Feb. 28.
Golden Boy president Oscar De La Hoya and chief executive officer Richard Schaefer, however, haven't given up on keeping Marquez. The three met in Mexico City last week, Schaefer said, and Golden Boy offered the junior welterweight a multifight contract.
"The first fight would be with Zab Judah and, after that, Robert Guerrero (who defeated Michael Katsidis on Saturday on the MGM Grand undercard)," Schaefer said.
That might not be enough to entice Marquez, who has made it clear he wants a third fight with Manny Pacquiao. Given Golden Boy's icy relationship with Top Rank, which promotes Pacquiao, it's unlikely the sides could strike a deal.
"We told Marquez we would do everything in our power to make that fight for him," Schaefer said. "But we're not going to sign him to a multifight deal, then step aside for Top Rank so he can fight Pacquiao. That's not the adult way to do business."
Schaefer said he hopes to hear from Marquez this week, but wouldn't speculate as to which way Marquez is leaning.
"He listened to what Oscar and I had to say and he told us he would think it over," Schaefer said. "The next move is up to him."
    ■ KHAN IN LAS VEGAS? -- Schaefer said if Amir Khan beats Paul McCloskey in England on Saturday, the reigning WBA junior welterweight champion's next bout could be against Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas on July 23.
"I think Vegas would be the best place for that fight," Schaefer said, citing the MGM Grand Garden as the likely venue. "You can't hold it in England because of television (start time), and I don't think the fight would sell well in California."
Khan's last fight in Las Vegas was his 12-round decision over Marcos Maidana at Mandalay Bay on Dec. 11. The crowd was only 4,632, but Schaefer said attendance probably suffered because of the card's proximity to Christmas and because there had been another card at the MGM Grand two weeks previous.
"I think the summer will produce a bigger live crowd," he said.
Golden Boy caught a break Thursday when Top Rank pulled its request for July 16 at the MGM. The date was proposed for a Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito rematch, but Margarito is reportedly still healing from the beating he received from Pacquiao on Nov. 13 and might not be cleared to train for a mid-July fight.

Why would Marquez want to fight Judah and The Ghost instead of Pac ? If he can Marquez will bail for a final crack at the pacman who should do the right thing and come down to 140 to fight him

marquez is gonna take the pac deal and lose. then he'll probably fight rios after rios fights barrera.

too much money with pac. he would be making 5x more with a pac ppv. jmm guerrero is lucky to be a ppv. judah maybe...but it'd be small. he'd make way more money with pac and arumwill sign him to a long term deal. he also can get gamboa and juanma if they move up. smarter.

5+million, the fight at 140 lbs, and no options for Arum to hold on Marquez' future fights........

.....if Marquez gets those conditions for a fight with Pacroid, he's going to take it.

Marquez has other viable options for him to get screwed weight wise and on the financial end for the sake of landing a Pacquiao fight.

Besides a Mayweather fight, there is'nt another interesting money making fight out there for Pacquiao at Welter and below than a Marquez fight.

I think Marquez has more options on who he can fight than Pacquiao does.
Marquez is now in the drivers seat!:yep

^ yup.. they need JMM more then he needs PACQUIAO.. he only wanted PAC to fullfill a thorn...

JMM should stick to his guns..

5 Mill Guaranteed at 140 or no fight and I go with GBP to make the same ammount...

JMM is in a good place...

Arum has no other viable options.. besides cotto margo rematch..

Berto? no way Arum was just talking mad **** about the promoter dissing him.

Martinez.. yeah right Arum sends PAC the cash cow to a slaughter...

Who else? No retirement is an option as ARUM will make PAC fight because its his money *****. Maybe a BS fight like a clottey rematch haha.

JMM is in a good place.

I dont see where rematches against fighters Pacquiao has already dominated (Cotto, Margarito, Clottey) would sell.

All Arum has to do is look at the Pinoy run forum of Pacland and see the poll they put after the Margarito fight on who they wanted Pacquiao to face next if it was'nt Mayweather.
Marquez won that poll hands down.......Mosley was 2nd on the poll and he only got like 18% of the vote.

The boxing fan wants to see a third Marquez-Pacquiao fight and want to see it at 140 lbs while there is still something left of Marquez.......

......the ******* of course fears it, they are much more comfortable if that fight lands at 147 lbs, for obvious reasons......

JMM by your way of thinking should lock himself in his room and wait for the Pacquiao fight.......would'nt want to take the risk to cross a street and have him run over by a car.:nut

What it boils down to is this , Marquez after knocking out Katsidis deserves a third Pacquiao fight , he will be dominated at an alien weight class (147) but he deserves his shot . He pulled out of the Morales fight and said that he didnt think the fight was big enough at this stage of his career . Well thats the indicator isnt it , he wants a third Pacquiao fight thats obvious .

If Marquez can walk away from GB to secure his 3rd Pacquiao fight then let him go , no fans can deny Marquez that , obviously GB will be less forthcoming to let Marquez walk off into the sunset and fight under TR , but there not in a position to counter it

You did'nt read the link from the thread starter.
Actually GBP has made Marquez an intrigueing enough offer that he's considering.

GBP is in position to counter Arum offering Marquez the Pacquiao fight........

GBP's offer was good enough that Marquez now has the leverage to go to Arum and say, "these are my demands for a Pacquiao fight. You meet them and I sign on the dotted line. You dont and I'll walk right back to GBP's."

Arum now has to weigh whether he can match Pacquiao with another fighter that will make more money than a 3rd Marquez-Pacquiao fight.

Honestly, outside of Mayweather, not even a Sergio Martinez matchup would net Pacquiao more money than a third Marquez fight would.

Marquez is now in position to make some demands!:deal:yep

The money and the chance at beating Pac is better than anything GBP can bring. He'll never be satisfied if he turns down that offer, so if it's on the table you know he's gonna take it. And he won't care what weight either.. but JMM **** jockeys are gonna cry no matter when, where, how, or why if they meet again. But I hope JMM gets his shot he deserves it..
