Two very good Mexican fighters who, like so many others, have been buried under the greatness of the trinity of Barrera, Morales and Marquez. I think that they deserve a bit of praise for the sterling careers that they have shaped for themselves in the ring. They have mixed in very good company, won titles, and have very impressive victories. Jose Luis Castillo: Sometimes he seemed like an unstoppable force in the ring; was involved in one of the greatest fights in boxing history (Corrales I); generally thought to have given Floyd Mayweather his toughest fight. Holds victories over Stevie Johnson, Diego Corrales, Juan Lazcano, Julio Diaz, Cesar Bazan and Joel Casamayor. Martin Castillo: A canny little ring general who possessed consumate skills combined with superlative ring intelligence; Holds victories over Alexander Munoz (twice) and Eric Morel; of his three defeats two were via cuts stoppage, and the last was a blowout against Fernando Montiel when Castillo basically looked like a shot fighter. Neither will make a dent in the Mexican Top-10 of all-time list, but I feel they deserve some thanks for the value for money performance that they gave us. Jose Luis will always rank ahead of Martin, but I included both, due to them having the same surname (made it a bit catchy) and because they were two of my favourite fighters when they were fighting in their primes. Does anyone have any further views on these fighters? And can you think of any other recent Mexican fighters that you feel are under-appreciated, buried as their careers were beneath the fame of the Big Three (Morales, Barrera and Marquez).
JLC is one of my favourite fighters, the definition of a warrior. jmm was criminally overlooked&under appreciated by the masses up until a few years ago.
JLC is one of the most underrated fighters because by the time he hit the spotlight, he was no longer at his best.
Luis Castillo retired now? I know he was having money problems before has his purse issues been sorted? I really feel for the guy he was nothing but heart.
