Daniel Geale's not a top fighter at MW? If you're implying Sturm has selective match making, I 100% agree. Pirog tried very hard to get Sturm into a unification bout, only to have Sturm outbid the light punching Geale away from Pirog and at the same time to buy himself buffer from Golovkin. I was always disappointed that he never fought Pavlik, Abraham or Taylor, but that's your German fans for you. They don't insist on their fighters unifying or their best fighting the best. They're simply happy to have the social atmosphere's of a championship fight. That said I actually think Sturm would've beat Taylor with neutral judges at Taylor's peak. So yeah I agree MW does have some weak fighters in the top 10, (though there are some really talented fighters who simply haven't been developed yet) and as a result Sturm has been able to reside at the top of the division much like Ottke before him who was a talented fighter who went mostly untested.
i'd like to hear why you think sturm beats taylor for my mind, it's very disrespectful to judge a guy who stepped up and will be remembered as the guy who dethroned Bernard Hopkins, rather than credit a guy who never stepped up and never beat anybody geale only got into the mix by beating sturm - sturm wouldn't even fight golovkin when they were in the same stable!
He still beat him, who cares if it's "officially" or not, it was clearly a bull**** decision and everyone agrees with that.
but don't you find it poetic justice that a fighter who wanted to get rich fighting nobodies lost a political decision to a fighter who was never a MW, and all because sturm was a nobody (his choice) on the world stage?
I think Sturm-Taylor would be a close fight that'd go either way, but I'd lean towards Sturm. I don't think Taylor would've stopped Sturm or done enough to hurt him badly. I base that on what I've seen from when Jermain fought Joppy, Spinks, Ouma, and Wright. Jermain lacked the power and technique to put those guys away. I know Joppy ran like a scared rabbit, but he was also a shell of himself. Jermain beat Hopkins with activity. Based on how Sturm & Taylor's amateur fight went, it looked like Felix's guard and jab would've kept him right with Jermain. Then there was Jermain's nervous energy when he got pushed, I imagine he'd slow down towards the end of the fight more so than Sturm. Geale got himself in the mix prior with his wins over Karmazin then Sylvester (as a titlist anyways). Beating Sturm just legitimized his postion. And yeah, Sturm was so afraid of Golovkin he wouldn't even spar with him in the gym. Like I said, I don't care for Sturm, but he's made some decent accomplishments over a long period of time and shown some good pedigree.
it's really bad form to go back to the amatuers just to try and give sturm his props just because he has done nothing in the pros i'm sure you can see that
Nothing wrong with your memory! Macklin beat him due to a combination of 2 main things: 1. Yes I feel Sturm lacked "focus" (ie he just wasnt bloody fit enough!) 2. Macklin fought out of his skin that night - incredible effort by Mack. But as I said earlier I would only be really confident of 2 current middles beating a properly prepared peak Felix, ie GGG and a peak Sergio.

Why? Based on what I seen with Danny Jacobs vs Matt Korobov, it paid off handsomely for me with Jacobs-Pirog.
Murray beat Sturm, close and awkward to score due to the styles of both, but close decision for Murray. Murray beat Martinez, showboating and ineffective flurries don't score points. Being robbed of a clear KD doesn't score points. Lots of neutrals scored the fight to Murray. Whats the "common" element with these two opponents of Murray ? Sturm wasn't focussed, and Martinez was injured. Very convenient scenario given both fighters history of excuse's after less than stellar performances, yet neither seem to suffer from injury or motivational problems when they win. Murray isn't an ATG, but he's a solid performer, with questionable motivation and promotional issue's, who should of had two belts imo. FWIW, i don't think a Golovkin fight would be as easy and one sided as some seem to think. Murray is one tough mofo, very good defense, and a decent boxing brain. I think a Golovkin Murray fight would be a good barometer with regards as to whether Golovkin is the real deal or not.
You best make sure Lencoreastside and Eastcore don't see your comment. Otherwise HE will shred you until the cows come home. :nono
Martinez blew out his knee in the Chavez victory. Here's the thing about Murray, if he was such high class talent he and his former handlers would've/should've been accepting offers instead of declining them, sitting idle, and making deals to go fight in front of next no one in Australia vs Garth Wood. Their behavior was like everyone was waiting for a golden cash out to arrive.
