Murray went to Germany and fought the hometown favorite Felix Sturm to a draw, which of course means Murray really won.

Then he went to Argentina and floored Sergio Martinez twice en route to "losing" a decision, but that fight was clearly a hometown decision. Murray won it clearly.

I think Martin Murray could easily boast about his achievements, but instead he's being cool and quiet. Fact is, he's never really lost, and so the fight with GGG isn't a foregone conclusion like many think it is.:deal

I don't know about the Sturm fight(didn't watch it live) but he certainly didn't "clearly win" the Sergio Martinez fight. The scores were close due to the knockdown in 8th but otherwise Sergio dominated most of that fight.

But I agree you can never count him out in any fight. He might give GGG some big troubles along the rounds. The problem is that he's not really a KO artist and GGG isn't the kind of fighter you can beat by PTS, not unlike FMJr or Ward. It'd take a super hard hitting KO artist to catch GGG with a surprise and knock him out to beat him. Otherwise you just can't win the punch trade with him.

Murray Sturm was a draw a legimate 6-6 draw he didn't win.
Martinez Murray he was outpointed by Sergio by 8-9 rounds only one KD was counted and even if there were 2 Martinez would still have won.

Most had it for Sturm, others had it a draw... Murray didn't win that fight and was fortunate to get a draw in Sturm's backyard.

That said, he should have been the linear champion, cause he beat the shell of Maravilla before Cotto did.

the 'hometown favorite' Sturm has lost 3 decisions in Germany which means your first assertion is bs.

Murray didn't look very good overall against an obviously faded Martinez so that isn't much to brag about. he hasn't looked good in any of his fights since then either so yeah, it's a foregone conclusion Triple G is going to beat the **** out of him. Golovkin is in a different league than Martinez or Sturm on their best day anyway.

look at Murray's two fights against a faded Khomitskey and then look what a pre-Abel Sanchez trained Golovkin did to a prime Khomitskey.

I thought Murray beat Sergio 114-113 with the one KD being the difference in the fight.

I really do highly question anyone who claims to be able to name 8 rounds that Sergio won in that fight. He definitely did not.

Either way, those two questionable decisions aside he really hasn't shown much, in my honest opinion.

Still a good enough fight for Golovkin given his activity levels.

Normally I tend to agree with you. But not here. Can you watch/re watch the sturm v murray fight and come back here and name the 6 rounds you gave to Murray please?

I thought the Sturm fight was a draw but Murray did beat Martinez.

Now that you remind me, maybe I am being too nice, I actually didn't think he did quite as good as Macklin did.

I scored Sturm murray 116-112, or 8 rounds to 4.
I absolutely cannot see any way Murray won more than 4 rounds.

Yet somehow the myth has taken hold that Murray was the "victim" of a "terrible robbery" against Sturm, whereas in fact, if anything, he was the beneficiary of an undeserved draw.

Whereas I cannot see any way Macklin won LESS than 7 rounds against Sturm.

I think my score was 7-5 Sturm or a draw, and I had Macklin beating him 7-5, Sturm and Murray bore me so my recollection of the match is hazy so maybe I should rewatch it, although I like the Macklin match, because at least Matthew is actually entertaining to watch.
