Few gave him a chance, went into the lions den in front of thousands of Martinez fans. He went in with a great game plan, he blocked just about everything Sergio threw and offensively Murray landed the more telling blows. It wasn't a robbery but I thought Murray was just ahead (should have been a further point ahead for the 2nd KD). But Murray was honest enough to say he didn't 'rip' the title off Sergio in his backyard and accepted the verdict. Great professional and I hope he is rewarded.
Murrays name is now amongst the top MWs. The Division is solid at the top. Very solid. In fact, I think Sergio may now be on the lower rung of the top 5.
It's a shame he has/will continue to struggle to get a VISA for the US because of his past. Having lost that fight, it puts him a difficult position to get a title fight.
Murry reminds me of Peterson before his first few losses. The right skill set but doesn't have the mental attitude the win at the highest level. The proverbial does just enough to loss guy. He fought with-in himself and had a great fight but both times against sturm and martinez had too much left in the tank for my liking at the end of the fight.
This guy arguably has wins over Sturm and Martinez, excellent fighter who should definitely be considered one of the top MWs.
all the credit in the world to him for going to Argentina in the first place. and secondly for putting up a great performance. but i have to be honest... he won the fight by 3 points on my card (4 if you include the second KD) and was jibbed. he was never going to get the decision in the first place, i knew that beforehand, but he still should have been awarded the middleweight championship. that's two fights on the big stage that he should have got the win in now. Brits getting robbed left right and centre when they travel. they never get the breaks that they earned. boxing can be really shitty.
Fair enough Sergio was showing his age but ultimately, Murray should get props for taking this fight in Argentina against a guy who for 11 rounds displayed a masterclass against Chavez Jr in his last fight.
He deserves props for taking the fight no doubt and going over there where he knew he wouldnt get a decision, but as far as the fight goes they both looked kinda bad
I think Murray should fight Geale next. If not, Barker in the UK. Both big fights and I think he'd win both.
