For me, this fight is 50/50, I think they are both at the same level, the difference is I think Joshua needed more time facing a southpaw in his past. I think it will give Joshua trouble. I do think Martin is more fluid, and has much better movement. The great neutralizer for Joshua is his power, he is a very powerful HW, but I also think Martin's power is a bit under rated. My prediction for this fight is Martin has the slight edge so I am picking Martin, but Joshua's power is the great equalizer so it could literally go either way. But I pick Martin. If Joshua loses this fight, he still has a tremendous future in front of him, its just a minor setback. Look at Klit losing to journeymen like Purity and Sanders.
I'd go with Joshua winning by ko in mid rounds. But Martin is a live underdog and I wouldn't be shocked at an upset.
Not seeing what some are in Martin. As a pretty upright southpaw with questionable defense he's wide open for the straight right. I see this as bit of a mismatch with Joshua blasting him out early, maybe round 3 or 4.
On paper AJ should win. Martin started boxing late at the age of 22, has not looked impressive in any of his fights and was behind on the cards against Glazkov (who is small and not very good) before he blew his knee. Martin does however look in better shape, faster and more explosive than I've ever seen him before and is coming to win. But he's still the underdog and rightfully so, I see AJ stopping him.
He really was behind on the cards against Glazkov? Wow, good thing Glazkov got injured. I thought Martin won every round. This isn't to say Martin is great, though. Glazkov is an extremely slow starter. Even against Cunningham, Glazkov didn't win his rounds until later in the fight.
I wonder which fights they base it on that Martin is supposedly so good, because Martin has only ever faced journeymen besides Glazkov and he was behind on the judges scorecard in that fight when Glaz was injured. He didn't have an amateur career as far as I know either, so we basically know nothing about the skill level of Martin and how he responds under pressure and how well he can take a punch. All we have are some short snippets of his fights against journeymen, and taking 10 rounds to get Zumbano Love out of there is far from impressive.
The unpredictability of this fight is intriguing as we are not sure how either man is going to handle the step up, they are both easily each others best opponent, hard to say what Martin brings due to the injury to Glazkov, and hard to say how AJ will handle another young unbeaten opponent as he did have a few shaky moments with Whyte. Nothing would surprise me, it could be an early KO win for either guy which is what most are predicting. I think it would be more interesting to see it go to the later rounds. Anyway this is what makes it an exciting fight.
Havnt seen any Martin fights so no real idea however Joshua looked epileptic against Whyte. Would not surprise me if Martin stopped him late
Joshua KO inside 3 rounds. Martin is too open for me, makes too many mistakes, I can't see how he keeps AJ off him, against smaller and inferior fighters he has been able to get away with the defensive flaws but against a bigger, rangier opponent who hits like AJ he's definitely going to get his chin checked. If Martin wins it's because he overcomes his technical flaws, the high chin, the poor foot work, the telegraphed punches, balance issues, the over reaching, by showing us intangibles. An iron chin, iron will and a work rate that can overwhelm AJ is what he'll need, he can't match Joshua in terms of skill, technique and power.
Im favouring Joshua but the truth is even though we have been reading about Joshua for so long we still havnt seen much of him. Hes knocking them all out early, i never even saw him get punched until the Whyte fight. There could be serious flaws in his game that could be exposed by a hard hitting rangy southpaw. Stands a bit upright for me with his chin up and seems to do everything in very easy to read straight lines. But ive watched a good few Martin fights since the AJ fight was announced and im not overly impressed. Hes big, got power and in a southpaw. But he seems slow and seems to box lazy and hasnt got much of a gaurd. To me its 2 Boxers who have have not yet faced somebody quite as good as each other, a good clash which will give us some answers, one of them is guna have his weaknesses exposed.
. Martin KO Joshua late round KTFO... :dead Joshua tries to KO Martin, gasses and ends up becoming an easy target later... an extended version of Mercer vs Morrison... Martin takes his time... Joshua will look great though early just like Morrison did against Mercer, he'll shoot his wad around round 5 or 6 and it'll be Sleepy Time for the big hype job soon after... Martin might play with him awhile to extend the late round beating and further embarrass muscle boy before sending him face-down to the canvas or through the ropes into his Limey Fans laps!! :deal
