According to Jim Lampley, Pavlik was jabbing over Martinez's all night long. As far as his usual 1920s-radio-style blow-by-blow commentary goes, he didn't have much mention (or qualifying names) for Martinez's hooks.
guys look closer at the beginning of the fight, he kept landing the right hook which was what caused the first cut in Pavlik's left eye in the first rounds. latter on he started landing the left. I noticed that mayweather also uses a similar progression; he starts off landings check hooks in the beginning then later on he throws more and more right hands, likewise martinez (see the williams fight t confirm) begins the fight and gets you concern with the hook then about mid-fight POW straight left hands (or the 1,2) begin to do damage.
Yea the right hook that cause Pavlik left eye to bleed but the left hand that cut Pavlik right eye did it way worse.
It's great hearing the gulf widen before your ears when the HBO crews' opinions are divided. Basically you had Merchant stroking his wispy old dandelion from stem to florets, drooling vodka all over his lapel and praying for the all-action white boy. You had Steward barely concealing his grudge against said white boy for upsetting the apple cart of his erstwhile meal ticket. In the middle (sort of) you had Lampley, who clearly had somewhat of a soft spot for Martinez due to the Cintron debacle but ultimately wore (and could not hide) the same colors as Merchant...but at least made an effort to veil his lack of objectivity. Martinez would literally land three unanswered blows and you'd be hearing about the right hand he ate twenty seconds before. Even Steward was chirping in with them and waving a flag for each flush Pavlik impact...but you could hear the reluctance in his tone, basically just going with the program and not rocking the boat but for a subtly subversive sentence here and there. The Martinez left hands had to be called, because they were drawing blood. The hooks got no love on the mic, and they were the primary instrument with which Martinez secured victory in the first four rounds.
