his style is unorthodox... stewart is not as good as people say

besides his trainer did a good job, it would be a mistake to change him too much.

First off his last name is "Steward". But he's not as good? Tell that to Hearns, Holyfield, Lewis, Wlad that.

I think had he gotten an elite trainer earlier definately. At this point, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Nah. He's thirty-five. He is what he is: athletic and relying on reflexes & intellect.
Does he fall into the trap of aging to where reflexes won't keep him on a world-class level? Maybe, maybe not. It's much too late to teach him a completely new way of thinking and a big name trainer would only dilute his own name, which has become a sleeper hit in the US.

Roach, Steward, Brother Nazeem... these trainers are wildly different in how they craft their fighters. None of those three styles would be a good fit for Martinez, even ten years ago.

Probably the best trainer for him would have been Eddie Futch...

I'm not criticizing the trainer. Martinez is a hell of a fighter and his trainer gets part credit for that and his trainer did a good job in the fight. I'm just saying, it's possible that with all of his athleticism if Martinez started younger with an elite trainer he MAY'VE been even better. At this point Martinez is 35 and his current trainer and him are working like magic so if it ain't broke don't fix it.
