He could still make some improvements. Those who picked Pavlik (myself included, though I sort of withdrew that prediction on fight week) did so on the basis that Martinez' lack of fundamentals would walk him into something nasty at some point, whence the fight would swing towards KP. Whilst, obviously, that factor was overstated, Martinez could almost certainly have got the job done easier if he didn't jump in with his arms down, back up in a straight line, wear his guard around his beltline etc. It would make him an even more formidable opponent.

Yeah, that would have been a great pairing!
I was on the verge of trying to explain to the OP why Roach, Steward and Mayweather don't belong in the same sentence and why each would be wrong for Martinez, but my fingers would have worn down to nubs.

It seems like his positioning and movement were influenced by soccer.

I briefly considered Brother Nazeem as a hypothetical when reading the OP but, other than "Stop taking the middle rounds for granted, you overly-admiring-your-work slacker!" (for years and years, I've been convinced that it has nothing to do with stamina), there's not much left to school him on so far as overall strategy goes.

That was one mighty unreadable sentence I wrote there.
