Imagine if Martinez had started boxing at 10 years earlier than when he began. Do you think he would be an ATG.

Almost definite, but might have lost to Hopkins at Middleweight.

Possibly but it's just one of those things that we'll never truly know the answer to. Either way it looks as though he's heading towards a hall of fame career and if he beats every champion at middleweight which i think he can do he'll go down as one of the greatest middleweights of his time. I think it might be too late to achieve ATG status unless he beats everyone at middleweight Floyd Mayweather and Andre Ward.

He'll still end up an ATG middleweight if he has enough gas left. The big-name 154 fights aren't going to come off. Clean out and unify 160, he's already been the real champ for around 3 years.

    But yes.

not really. after 5 years of boxing you are more or less are the same fighter. if he fought earlier then he wouldnt be able to still fight at such a high level at his older age

He would be more textbook. I'm not sure if it would help or hurt in his case

You also have to keep in mind that if he had began to box at an earlier age then he wouldn't have played soccer or been a cyclist, meaning his stamina might not be as good as it is now, and his style might be entirely different as well.

vernon forrest+winy wright+trinidad+ de-la hoya+fernando vargas+shane mosely+daniel santos were all at 154 when he was fighting their, he improved with age, a younger version of martinez could have gotten smoked by all of them

He would have never discovered soccer or cycling which gave him a huge stamina advantage against others. Too many factors though.

What if he started Boxing at 10 but evenutally got tired of it and eventually moved on to soccer/cycling and won the tour de france or joined barca/united/chealsea/any big club?

Ah fuk that, probably not. I like my unorthodox, athletically gifted fighters with blazing speed and ability to improvise and become vastly more assertive on the spot. :yep

good point and if he started 10 years earlier, I doubt he'd be still at the top of his game right now

dont know, i think his story and his path is the factor to his boxing and his success

maybe he woulda burned out or wore down younger

what if he boxed younger and stopped and found a different sport

he was a cyclist and a soccer player, maybe if he boxed first he woulda had another change in hobbies
