The promotional team of WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15KOs), is convinced that Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs), the WBC's Diamond champion, will do everything possible to avoid a potential unification in 2012. Pirog's team made a recent offer to Martinez, reportedly $3 million, for a unification showdown in Russia. Martinez's promoter, Lou DiBella, countered with a $6 million dollar demand.

"In my opinion, all of these statements from DiBella - he is*simply refusing the fight," said Pirog's lead promoter in Russia, Kirill Pchelnikov.

"They don't*want to face*Dmitry Pirog, at least in the near future. The question here is not even*the millions of dollars involved.*If we offer them $6 million, they would find other excuses. Why should he fight*Piorg when he can face two boxers where his victory is guaranteed, for the same money [combined*with both fights]. We are ready to fight with everyone, and even*with Martinez if he*gives*us the*nod. We are ready to fight him at any time and anywhere."

"But in addition to Martinez, there are other boxers, and we have other options for Pirog. As far as the next opponent, that will be revealed later on. The only thing I can say - we have had discussions with [WBA champion] Felix Sturm, but he refused to fight Pirog, and he booked a fight with Englishman Martin Murray."

a great fight? yes, great for the fans? yes. a big pay day sergio is looking for? NO
fighting a 19-0 wbo belt holder isnt really on sergios radar...props to Pirog for trying...but he will have to wait, much like sergio did all these years before his big breakes started to happen

Pirog offered him a career high payday. He also offered to fight him in the US before you use the 'don't fight in Russia' excuse.

Dzinziruk, Barker....huge fanbases and paydays

    duck, duck, duck

then who should be on martinez radar barker, he got every reason to take this fight, biggest payday, and get a belt, but if they use the fact that they want 6 million dollar, somthing that martinez aint even worth, then i would call it ducking.

I'm one of the biggest Sergio fans on here.. but I have to be honest, this is ducking (if all allegations are true)......... 3 Million dollars?? He wouldn't make that with anyone else outside of Pac and May.. so if he doesn't fight them.. he should fight Pirog

According to DiBella, there was no counter-offer because Pirog's team disclosed their inability to offer anything above $3 million dollars. And, neither HBO or Showtime have expressed any interest in traveling to Russia for a Martinez-Pirog fight.*

"Pirog and his promoter are just desperate for attention. There was no counter-offer because they said the best they could do was $3 million. And we would never travel without U.S. TV*to some town in Russia for any amount of money. If I ever agreed to a deal like that, everyone would think I was f**king*crazy. The guy has no credentials and he means nothing over here. Instead of always talking about Martinez, maybe they should do something to get their fighter on U.S. TV, like fighting a Peter Quillin or someone else to get*him*noticed. Instead they want to waste their time by continuing to*talk about something that's not going to happen. And the more they continue to talk, the less likely it's going to happen," DiBella told ***********.com.*

I don't know the details about who is offering what and so forth so I can't say Martinez is trying to avoid Pirog. But, if Pirog's team is offering the money they say they are then you can't fight guys like Dzindiruk and Barker and then say Pirog isn't a big enough name. He's been on HBO where the other two weren't, he has a title,is the higher rated fighter, and is offering a career high payday(if the offer is true).

Martinez's competition level over the last couple years is about as high as anyone's in boxing, even his last two fights have been against solid competition they just happened to be a let down from guys like Pavlik and Williams. So there's no way he's ducking anybody out of fear and if he's waiting on Mayweather or Pac then I don't blame him. But it doesn't look good when DiBella is putting Pirog down when he is a better and bigger fight(if the offer holds) than his last two fights.

If DiBella thinks Pirog is currently too high of a risk/reward factor than say so. If he's playing safe while waiting on Mayweather or Pac then say so. If they think a Pirog fight can be made into a huge event down the line than say that. DiBella can spin things all he wants but don't say Pirog isn't a big enough of a fighter while you are in the middle of fighting Dzinziruk and Barker, it gives the impression he's trying to find reasons to not fight Pirog, even if its true or not.

If DiBella would stick to the not fighting in Russia reason as to why they don't want to fight Pirog than thats fine. I also agree that Pirog needs to face someone like Quillen, Lee, or Macklin, and do so on HBO preferably, to become more well known. But when he says Pirog has no credentials and then faces Dzinziruk and Barker, who both might be less well know than Pirog, than he looks like he's making excuses so they don't have to face Pirog.

why didnt bradley fight khan? ducking? no...he want s pac

just because he could perhaps make a few dollars over his career high...that may not be 10% of what he is looking for.... he could triple his careeer high vs mayweather.... he aint ducking...hes done enough ass kicking to by some time at his age.....he fought paul williams 2 times and knocked him senseless and shredded Kelly Pavilik a former undisputed middleweight champ....Pirog has a win over a very good prospect Jacobs....dont get too carried away

    Pirog holds a "WBO Belt"

Biggest win is 20-0 Danny Jacobs

    his last 2 "title" fights

    Javier Maciel 18-1 (who?)
    Gennady Martirosyan 22-2

its nice and refreshing to see him call out the best in his division...but if you cant get him..try to fight someone next thats not one of the worst.....

i'd love to see any of these
    fight each other

Dmitry Pirog - WBO middleweight champ
Gennady Golovkin - WBA World middleweight champ
Felix Sturm - WBA Super World super middleweight champ
Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam - interim WBA World middleweight champ
Sergio Martinez - WBC Diamond middleweight champ
JC Chavez Jr - WBC middleweight champ
VACANT - WBC Silver middleweight title
Daniel Geale - IBF World middleweight champ

but , boxing is boxing and people just are not interested in fighting the best, they want to fight the easiest for the most money

Wrong, he offer Martinez to fight Pirog in russia for the career high payday. If he offer Martinez to fight Pirog in the u.s then why the offer to fight in russia in the first place?

Sergio is not going to Russia. End of.

If Pirog focuses on Martinez so much, he must accept the fact this fight would happen in America.
