He's a major dude. Takes a lotta guts to not just go with the concensus. "First of all, do you still feel you won that Williams fight?" "Sincerely, I believe I didnt win that fight. I had the sensation that I should have done more to win, and I didnt"
Stand-up guy. The fight was even in my eyes, and if he felt he could have done more then he's honest with himself and everyone else in terms of his performance. I think that's a quality that helps fighters down the line.
It's funny. I felt like he would have won if he had done more. Not a mistake he is likely to make again. See Pavlik fight for example of this...
Yeah, I scored it narrowly for Martinez. I think narrowly, can't remember the exact score or how many rounds I thought could've gone either way.
He couldn't have done any more - he was completely shattered at the end of the fight. It's almost a concession that he can't beat Williams.
He took the fight at two weeks notice, at a higher weight class. I think Martinez would do better in a rematch, I scored the first fight a draw.
:huh it could have easily been a draw or a win for sergio. i'm sure if he had more than two weeks it would have been worse for paul than the quintana schooling.
I hope he at least really means concession and not consensus. Because if he means consensus, then I didn't put enough laughing emoticons up. I find either to be ridiculous anyway though.
Martinez is an extremely respectful person, too respectful for a corrupt sport, but that's the way he is, a very unique figure in a shady business, he should never change. He called the 11 rounds to 1 score for Williams a "mistake" and accepted the "loss" as he was the visitor fighter despite our polls have him winning and experts had him ahead too. But hey, for once someone lets the fans decide. Williams might've won the official fight, but Maravilla won the fans and hearts and his respected ways and true skills came together beautifully in the destruction of another "official" fighter in Kelly Pavlik, saying a two-fisted "**** you" to the way things work in pro boxing.
