Those amateur fights won't prepare him for getting hit with Sergio's power over 12 rounds. GGG already bruises up pretty easily based off the Rosado fight. Plus Sergio's punches with the style to cut you up

I still see Golovkin being too smart to let Sergio do what has made him become the star he is. He's improving every fight. I know Sergio's style is that hands down to draw them in but against Golovkin, that would be a huge mistake especially with how hard that jab hits, which will land multiple times. It would take away everything Sergio is used to doing. I'm all for a constructive argument though. As I said, this fight needs to happen, which I'm hoping it does around this time next year.

I hope the fight comes off next year also with Sergio fully recovered. Right when he announced he was coming back in March of this year after ACL surgery, I knew it'd be a big issue, especially considering his whole style revolves around his legs.

I feel you though. I'm not used to debating people on here without being called all types of names :good

Yeah one can only hope both fighters are at or near 100% if the fight takes place cuz it definitely will be a good one. Until then, Saturday should be a good one.

Much of this^. I have been and still am a great fan of Maravilla, and a fight vs a 2010 Maravilla woulda been something special I think, but I still see GGGs ability to close down the ring as too much for Sergio.

Martinez has great speed and movement, but would eventually get caught by a pressure fighter like Golovkin. Maravilla has also shown a willingness to stand and trade his way outta trouble, but once again, this would be a losing proposition with GGG.

I appreciate the argument that GGG isn't proven, but that also means his limits are yet to be established, to me the only MWs on Martinez resume arguably better than those Golovkin's faced are Pavlik and Williams (OK not really a MW) with a maybe for 2012 CCJ jr (who GGG sparred ...err ... effectively).

As you say, we can never know for sure now, we just have to hope the fight with the 2014 model of Sergio gets made. I would like to hope Sergio gets his money fight vs Cotto and then fights GGG as Lewcowicz has been suggesting. It would be a real shame to see the 12 year Hopkins/ Trinidad lineage taken into retirement with Sergio (or worse still passed to Cotto or even Quillin).

It would be fascinating for sure. No way you can be so certaing though. GGG is underrated for the skill and technique he has. Martinez speed and footwork vs GGG timing and economical thinking.
Would be more like a chess match in my opinion but Martinez fast har jab would be very useful in the early stages of the fight.
