no such thing as 'ducking' a fighter who hasn't earnt a shot at the title
Martinez's injuries and golovkin being well off the MW radar until HBO picked him up have everything to do with it

I agree with everything you're saying, and I feel sorry for you seeing that this forum is 95% idiots. Most boxing fans are actually fanboys who love watching their gay-looking idols (Floyd, Sergio, Wlad, Vitali) make millions of dollars by beating up homeless guys. Fanboys don't really care about watching competitive fights with the champion fighting the n.1 contender, e.g. Danny Garcia vs Lucas Matthysse. They don't care about that sort of fight because it's not gay idol-worship.

Martinez will never fight Golovkin because Sergio is really just an Argentine version of Floyd. And anyone who says there's not enough money in a Martinez-Golovkin fight is lying through the skin of their teeth: all American boxing fans know both fighters, and add to that the Argentine fans and the fans in the former Soviet Union, and you'll have the most-watched fight of the year (since Floyd vs Khan will probably be a failure).

Could you explain what Darren Barker did to "earn" a shot at Martinez's title?

So if you were Martinez you would fight GGG and not Cotto?

The guy has trained his ass off since he was 21, worked his way up to the pinnacle of the sport, and been ducked a lot himself on the way. Now he finally gets the chance to fight for some big money. Who are we to say he can't?

And by taking the Cotto route he might give himself a better shot at the p4p best boxer in the world.

Martinez - GGG should happen however, and I think it will if Martinez feels he isn't shopworn like the Murray fight suggested.

what if sergios plan is to fight cotto for one last payday and then retire?

is there anything wrong with a 38-year-old guy that is arguably a shell of his former self(knocked down three time in his last two fights as well as undergoing consecutive knee surgeries) cashing out?

maybe hes going to fight cotto now and then ggg at the end of the year

by the way, it was just two fights ago that martinez fought the then biggest threat in the mw division in chavez...who just beat the fuc-k out of the london born and bread andy lee...who is now fighting unranked contenders in the UK

Martinez is a legit champ and I'm pretty sure he'll fight Genna, but first he has to make some good bucks from fights with Cotto and Canelo. :yep

No one should duck, if you're the champion you HAVE to defend your title even if they're strong and younger people.

Zaragoza didnt ducked Morales when he was old and Morales was 21.

Julio Cesar Chavez didnt ducked De la Hoya even though DLH was in his prime and Chavez was out of it.

I wouldn't fight Cotto if I were Martinez. I'd take a tune up, see where I was at and if good I'd fight GGG. Wouldn't hold the belt hostage. The Cotto fight is simply ridiculous and a culture of sport that thinks it's okay for the #1 MW to fight a barely top 5 Welterweight/JMW that's lost every big fight he's faced and is close to done is absurd. It's not like he's taking another good JMW or MW star that's relevant and an actual challenge instead of GGG for more money, he's doing a Mayweather inspired freak show. So to hell with that.

Martinez defeating GGG would have the sport so high on him that his demanding rights in future fights would be increased because it would re-legitimize his current status as MW champ and P4P fighter. That's what I would go for and if I couldn't do it I would vacate the belt.

GGG has trained his ass off his entire life also, is currently being ducked. So if GGG wins the title and gets a few decent Ws like Martinez(which his resume is not that big of a deal, his over achiever rise relates more to the common person and hands down boxer style the common fan)he's going to be forgiven to duck big challenges? No, he won't. Certain guys are celebrated far too much.

And what kind of fan are you to care about what these guys make? Martinez is already a millionaire, more money lining his pocket does nothing for me, I want to see the next great MW and I believe he's in waiting and IS the guy the we're talking about that's being ducked.

Last - Shot at the p4p best? How can you be the p4p best when you don't fight the best? Just like how can Martinez be considered the best MW coming off a **** performance against Murray and planning to do the circus freak show with Cotto and possibly Mayweather. Real champs don't try to cash themselves out like this.

This era sucks, the fans suck even more. You included.

Now tell me what I don't know or understand again because I'm not interested in low risk/high reward and the damage it's done, all the way to all of your mindsets that defend it?

    :scaredas:

Sucks for us real boxing fans that the lineal MW title is in the hands of a primadonna. It's the 2nd longest lineal title without a break if I'm not mistaken, with Flyweight the longest going back to the 70s.

And instead of getting an old fashioned championship showdown, we'll get primadonna freak shows that fans that enjoy talking numbers instead of fights will buy.

new age fans are so used to not seeing good fights it doesnt bother them that it doesnt happen. they like to excuse good fights that dont happen by saying "different promoters, boxing is a business, need to build it up, theres no rush ect"
    its sickening
thats why boxing is a blip on the news these days.... (no one cares)
