So what the hell is your point? Taking my statement out of context, and trying to make it look like a stand-alone comment is pure bull****. The vast majority of the damage happened in a few seconds in he 9th round. Martinez had just lost 4 consecutive rounds. After that he turned things around, and that ain't hard to do when your opponent can't see. From now on either leave my statements in their appropriate context, or refrain from quoting me. If you believe Martinez's ludicrous comments, tell me now, and there will be no need for any further discusion.
I just rewatched the fight. Watch Martinez's expression in the corner and what his trainer is saying. This one isn't hard.
no, I believe what someone had said earlier, and thgat is that maybe what Martinez really said, got mixed up in translation.
Martinez seems like an intelligent guy. I find it very hard to imagine him saying something as stupid as taking rounds off to give Pavlik confidence. :nut
Stop being biased. The first 30 seconds of the beginning of the 9th round, Martinez came out throwing punches in which most were landing. He was landing quick left hands right in Pavlik face about 3 times before he land another big one that cut Pavlik right eye. <<<So basically the cut started after Martinez was throwing punches in which most were landing in the first 30 seconds into that fight.
Maybe it escaped your notice Ray, but I stopped debating with you a long time ago. It's hardly fair for me to engage in a battle of intelligence, wits, and knowledge with an unarmed man.
Yea you're right i mean even though i told you a day after Williams beat Martinez that Martinez will beat Pavlik cause he's slicker and faster while Pavlik is slow and easy to get hit. <<What was your response? (No fighter has gone to a 12th round decision with Pavlik at middleweight. Pavlik will destroyed Martinez. Pavlik will put Martinez in a stretcher.) <<<Yea ok booradley.
^ That is gold. Can't see it, what Martinez said. Pavlik had him going but the cuts that opened up on Pavlik's right eye, I think, gave him new life and he got the job done.
Just a reminder, though it is very difficult, it is not against the rules to win a fight with a bad cut and it's not against the rules to be competitive with a cut. Having said that, once again I do think it was the game plan to rest in the middle rounds to finish strong but not to intentionally give rounds away, that would be stupid given Martinez has been robbed before. Kelly told a ytown paper in a Q&A segment that he got "lazy" and the punch busted open the cut. I've been saying this, I think Pavlik wasn't prepared for Martinez changing his pattern. He expected Martinez to come out with the same rythm as he had for most of the previous 3-4 rounds and got blitzed in the 9th.
Fairly close on the scorecards, about an 8-4 win, but Martinez got KD'd. Some posters have pointed out though that most of the rounds that Martinez won were pretty emphatic compared to the ones Kelly won. It means nothing on the scorecards but Kelly took the worse beating in the fight.
