Martinez I will fight floyd march or may

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Bladegunner, Oct 7, 2011.

  1. Can we really say that Martinez is a greater threat to Floyd outside of size and power? Martinez does 2 things that Pac doesn't do - and those two things can very well be his downfall. That's leaving his hands down by his sides and taking rounds off. With Pac, Floyd would be facing a guy that will be coming and blasting away for 12 rounds.

Pacquiao-De La Hoya was seen as a can't win, cash out fight for Pac. It didn't end up being that, but when he signed for it that's what it was. Mayweather will be given a very good chance to Martinez, especially at 154. Mayweather should've fought Winky after the Gatti fight, now that would've been something special.

Yeah anything lower than 155+ is not acceptable if Floyd will fight Martinez.

Size, power, at his peak, widely regarded as the 3rd best fighter in the world. You could argue that Pac is a tougher fight for Floyd but I'd imagine that most would disagree with you. Arum has come out publicly many times and critisized DiBella and Martinez for even mentioning Pac's name because it's such a mismatch.

Also, based on past Pac fights, I don't believe he will be coming and blasting away for 12 rounds as you think he will. In the Marquez fights, Pacquiao had many rounds where he threw around 40 punches in the round. Styles make fights. Mayweather won't be Clottey in there.

Laugh worthy. I'm not talking about perceived threats and hype, I'm talking legitimate. No way in hell is a washed up DLH at a weight class he hadn't fought in many years even remotely close to Sergio at the present time.

It kind of depends on how floyd would fight him, Im sure pac could get some good punches/combos in but mayweather controling pace and timing allows him to drop pacs activity and land the higher connect percentage.
he is the only one capable at 147 and below to beat him, thats why it has always been a very high risk high reward type match up.

If Sergio fights at 154 and looks shot unfortunately you will hear the same things like with Oscar.
Floyd wont get the credit for taking the risk and stepping up and it will also be called cherrypicking and draining.
Boxing fans love to discredit wins unfortunately.

    What the hell?

People can not discern journalistic lingos?

It simply means he is thinking about fighting either - or nothing. It is like I am thinking of owning a Maserati.

In journalism, that is exactly what it means - nothing. Just as I want my Maserati.

In Journalism, I believe simply means nothing. Just as I believe that I will get my Maserati in 5 months. Better still, I also belive I could get either a Maserati or Porsche.

Another Jargon saying that in a distant future, the world will end - or look at the above example. He did not even say 2012. He meant 2017.

The is one thing certain - *****s have selective "I Believe".

When Gayweather said " I will fight the winner of Martinez vs. Williams" they immediately started making threads about that fight will actually happen.

Unfortunately you're right but Martinez hasn't really shown any signs of slippage and is still considered an elite fighter. That's the difference between he and DLH when both Mayweather and Pac fought him.

Sergio didn't look great last weekend but he still dominated for the most part and convincingly stopped an unbeaten fighter. Time will tell if Barker is actually a good fighter or not but we can all agree he had a pretty solid gameplan and came to fight.

Boxing fans are also quick to rule out gauging previous performances as there are dozens of examples of boxers turning back the clock but the reality is that recent fights are the BEST gauge of a fighters current ability.

Pejevan - This article is one of many bits of information out there suggesting that Martinez and Mayweather are actually negotiating and possibly have agreed to terms on a fight.

    Time will tell.

If Floyd and Sergio were in negotion Sergio's power performance may have killed it.

    Then post that one-

If you post this one and did not actually understand what was being meant, then you don't know how journalist twist things around.

In today's boxing world, any fighter that wants to be mentioned, read, or discussed has to "name drop" somebody. Heck, even stupid posters like EZE has to keep mentioning his private line to Tygart.

Even Darchinyan said "he would fight Pac." Or even Vlad jokingly.
