It was a style thing. I don't think this takes away from Martinez. He fought well, intelligently, and adjusted. I'd like a bit more use of his jabs, and a bit more body punches than he had in the fight. But when he did throw to the body, with both his jabs and hooks he opened Barker up a bit more and rattle some combinations home. Barker had height, and a sort of gangly awkward ranginess toward him that definitely trouble Martinez. He also didn't give much away. Both fought well, I enjoyed the fight.

Martinez is a quality fighter and I like watching him, but it's clear he is no "superfighter" as Max Kellerman's likes to put it. I've been guilty of overrating him. He's benefitting from a watered down era at 154/160.
