I am a Paul Williams fan but personally I feel that Martinez is a bigger challenge than Pavlik because! 1. He has more speed than Pavlik 2. Lateral movement which Pavlik does not posses 3. The intangible!! He is a lefty and PW only loss was to a lefty! If Paul beats Martinez by KO or convincingly then Pavlik has 0 chance of beating Paul!!!
martinez is actually a very good boxer. better than a lot of people on here think. i watched some of his stuff lately and when he wants to he can throw good quick combinations and the fact that he is a lefty is a problem for some fighters. he does move well as you point out. but i will disagree respectfully lol: imagine that) * i know this is at 160 but neither guy is gonna come in much over 160 so it may as well be at 154. kelly is much bigger than either of these guys will be on fight night (not outcome determinative in and of itself i know) * sergio doesnt hit nearly as hard as kelly. he has ko'd about 50% of his opponents and thats at 147 and 154 while kelly has ko'd over 85% of his opponents including every single mw he's ever fought. i know sergio has ko'd more of his opponents as of late than earlier in his career but come on look who he's been in there with lately (some are pretty bad...way worse than rubio and lockett ). so unless sergio can be extra cagy in there, i'm not sure he's gonna get paul's respect like kelly could. * while segio does throw combinations very well when he wants to and can move while doing it, i'm not sure he throws enough volume altogether to deter paul from just overwhelming him. kelly throws a **** ton of punches as well...punches that are harder from a bigger man. * wasnt quintana not who paul was originally supposed to fight? (no excuse but just curious...i'm pretty sure it wasnt. in fact, i think he was supposed to fight cintron wasnt he until cintron, who fights orthodox, pulled out?) all in all, i expect martinez to be very competitive for as long as he can keep paul from imposing his will. if he can keep moving in and throwing those quick combos and moving out then it may be very competitive for a long time. i do expect paul to eventually overwhelm martinez with his volume and stamina. what paul brings is too much for someone who can't get his respect by returning fire w/ fire. just my opinion :hi:
What up Cuz!!! Always respect your opinion!! You always give great detail in your responses!! I'm talking styles! PW gets hit by southpaws quite a bit!! Nothing against KP but I'm not truly concerned about KP's power because PW rolls with alot of punches and he has a good chin!!! I think it will be easier for PW to get his shots off on a fighter with KP's style. Thats why i was never concerned about Margarito, Winky or even if he fought Clottey or Cotto cause they usually come forward!!! Yea Cintron pulled out of the fight with 3 weeks left and was replaced with Quintana 2 years ago!!! Cintron claimed injury and Williams told Team Cintron that they'll reschedule the fight in March but never got a response!!! Sure enough Cintron ended up fighting Margarito in April!!! Errily similar to this up coming fight!!!(Scheduled to fight an orthodox fighter who pulls out and now is replaced with a south paw/the orthodox fighter takes a fight right after!!)

I would neither strongly agree or strongly disagree. Martinez is a fine fighter, no doubt. Faster and technically better than Pavlik, yeah, I'll go with that. But even though he has downplayed power, he doesn't have the heavy hands of Pavlik. Pavlik is strong as an Ox even if he is as skinny as a giraffe. Williams is great, in my opinion but he is not hard to hit. Pavlik might be the worse for him. I don't think we can say for sure. But Martinez will be a good challenge, no doubt. I wish it were at 154 for Sergio's title though. It would look very good on Paul's record.
Pavlik is a physical challenge, and as Pac showed you can overcome physical disadvantage with skills and own power. Martinez is a technical/style challenge, SM brings a lot of skills, a difficult style to figure out (yet another southpaw), toughness, power, slickness. Just compare Martinez-Cintron to Angulo-Cintron, SM actually knocked Cintron out (full 10 count) and schooled him in the very same fight whereas Angulo the monster failed to put Kermit away and lost. On paper, Pavlik is the bigger challenge. Coming down to skills, styles, and gifts (like speed, reflexes, rhythm), Martinez could be just as tough to beat. SM is a pretty damn risky replacement on short notice, even at 160.
Williams/Martinez looks like a 60/40 fight to me. 60% chance Paul wins. Pavlik/Williams is also a 60/40 fight. 60% chance Paul answers the bell for the 10th round and gets stopped late, 40% chance PW gets stopped earlier.
