It puzzles me and pisses me off that they thought it was a legal knockdown, and second that Macklin was winning at one point.
Larry Merchant is a ****ing joke. He was all chatty when Macklin did well but shut his senile mouth up when Macklin got KTFO
I gave Macklin three rounds, including the KD round that wasn't a legit KD call, clearly, by the replay, where no punch landed, which I scored 10/9 for Macklin, instead of 10/8, because Martinez controlled that round, really. :conf I don't know what everyone else was watching. Barker did much better, I thought.
Same here. Martinez had his issues but to me always seemed a step ahead. I think people know how to fight him better now...he was this sexy darkhorse out of nowhere when he first hit the scene..but I think he can't have the jump on people like he used to, and that may mean he has to work a little harder than expected to get the win. He still looks sensually dangerous to me...he was a tad overrated like 18 months ago, so I reckon thats got people expecting more of him then he is showing..but IMO he looks about right.
Yea, I scored the 7th round 10-9 for Macklin too, because of Sergio controlling the round up to that point. Lederman scoring it 10-8 I didnt agree with. I had the fight scored (including the 11th with Sergio's 2 knock-downds) 107-100 Martinez. Remember, that's with the last round being 10-7 btw.
the expectation game, sergio was expected to dominate from the get go and blow macklin out of the ring early...sergio was mentioned to be 10-1 favorite
Jesus, is there some kind of agenda against Sergio? Why? Don't ****ing get it. Guy just performs and gives you all he's got and gets spectacular wins. Unbelievable, biased commentary from the first round. Some vociferous **** said tonight by Larry Merchant, like Sergio not fighting like the middleweight champ! Then Merchant's interview fishing for any kind of comment from Martinez to justify Merchant's and the entire HBO crew's distorted perception of the whole fight. Amazingly, Sergio's answers to Merchant's stupid and irrelevant questions actually described the fight exactly the way we all saw it: Sergio expected Mack to come after him and when he didn't, Sergio adjusted, figured out Mack's routines, timed him, and took him out! No way was Sergio EVER out of control. Give me a ****ing break!
I think you're absolutely on the mark, like the "mystery" of his unusual style's been put under a microscope and figured out a bit and he lost the aura he'd built up over just a few big TV gigs and I think now comes the unfair reaming of him for not being superman. It's a bit silly, really. I find it distasteful, and I knew when they were making RJJ comparisons that they were just setting him up to look bad no matter how good he is. They do this to so many good fighters. Mostly the ones that look flashy. ...And are sexy. :hey
