Martinez is officially ducking pirog

    He claimed that pirog didn't deserve a fight with himself, and if
    he fought pavlik and williams like he did then he'd consider it only
    then. He felt that the russian hadn't done enough to build up any
    appeal( even tho he starched a main prospect hyped by HBO)
    to garner a fight................................So, now he'll fight a no
    named british domestic who's not even proven against the best
    in his own country, and sergio won't even get paid like he wants.

    This is THE very definition of ducking!

    You didn't see Pirog's last fight, did you? Watch it, then you'll understand. Pirog just had Jacobs number. Martinez would maul him. Sergio is just mad the WBO stripped him for no good reason.

    Pirog dominated that fight but didn't finish because he was bored.
    So, pirog has jacobs number prompting sergio to automatically
    assume he'd maul dmitry like his allegiance of "unable to think for
    themselves" fanboys and then instead fight the elite darren barker?

    like I always say, it's only ducking if you refuse to fight someone who is higher ranked than you. If Pirog didn't want to fight Martinez, that would be ducking. But Martinez doesn't want to fight Pirog... no big deal. Martinez is already ahead of Pirog. It's normal for a fighter to want to move forward, not backward. Barker is just a stay busy fight... it's not like Martinez considers this career defining.

    What bull**** logic is that philla? How is pirog supposed to get ahead
    of martinez if he never gets a shot. The guy is unbeaten with a world
    title, and has a spectacular style. How's he less deserving than barker.
    And what stay busy fight? the man's 36 FFS!! Man, ESB is now the worst

    I agree with you that Philla is wrong, and that Pirog is a deserving challenger. However, I don't believe Martinez is ducking him. There is no real public demand for that fight, and Pirog's biggest win was against a prospect. Pirog needs another big win or two before the fans and the writers begin to demand that Martinez fights him.

    He can beat guys like Sturm, Golovkin, maybe fight someone at 168. Maybe he can fight the winner of PW vs Lara. There's a lot of ways.

    It's only ducking if you refuse to fight someone who is ahead of you in the game. Or if you accept to take a step back just to avoid fighting someone. Like for example Povetkin bitching out on a Klitschko fight.
