You need to watch Macklin - Moore and Macklin - Sturm to see what he is capable of. He will push Martinez all the way but ultimately be outclassed. It's going to be a very good fight, I can't wait. I hope I'm wrong and Macklin pulls off the upset.
Closer to Barker, IMO - I just don't see this as the 50-50 proposition some are making it out to be. :think
I really am adamant about the above. Macklin will not get tired, he will come after Sergio all night.
You have a point. I think a lot of people's perceptions are based on the respective combatants last outings. Most thought Sturm would win quite handily and not for Maklin to put up such a ferocious effort. Also, some people believe that Martinez should not have struggled as much as he did with a relatively untested Darren 'Baker' Barker. Maklin does have the style to cause Martinez some issues. He can also dig. That being said I personally think Martinez does have that extra bit of class and it will tell. Martinez close yet deserved UD.
You're referring to the Barker fight there? I'm not even sure, Barker didn't have that much success with his jab. Before the Dzinziruk fight: Serhiy has one of the best jabs in the business. What happens? Outjabbed all fight.
I don't agree on what people say about Macklin bringing it to Martinez playing into Sergio's hands. Every fight and every period I have seen where Martinez is under intense pressure, he has looked worse than when he is given space to breathe and move at his own pace. Macklin is very comfortable coming forward and throwing plenty of leather, so I think, at least for 3 or 4 rounds, this fight will be extremely competitive and Macklin will have his success. Macklin will have to keep a tight defense, because Martinez has fast hands, that much is obvious. I wouldn't do a Darren Barker but I would take note from that performance. Macklin can bring pressure and he's not a weak puncher either, but he has to exert pressure in a controlled, educated manner if he wants to take the title from Martinez. As for the Ring title itself, personally I value it very highly. It's really the only belt I will always take note of when someone wins it. Mainly because, although the magazine is owned by De La Hoya, the ratings are assigned pretty independently and without obvious bias to my knowledge. Not perfect but much better than some of the other dross.
