I think what last night showed us all was that Martinez is a blown up welter/light middleweight the reason he struggled last night was because Barker is a proper middleweight with good strength and punch resistance.
I said ages ago years ago that martinez isn't as good as people think and last night proved that I think.

Yes he beat Pavlik but we all know pavlik had problems to say the very least and as for williams with all due respect williams simply doesn't belong at over 147 his legs and build in general are far too flimsy for 154+ and is an overrated fighter himself.

What we saw was a great light middleweight beat a decent Middleweight last night and it was simply harder work for sergio BECAUSE barker is a proper middleweight not a blown up welter like williams or a fighter with problems like pavlik.

I think Martinez struggles against most good proper middleweights quite frankly as his power at the weight wont discourage proper middles as we say it didn't Barker up until what happened but I thought that was more fatigue than anything else on barkers part.

It's more a case of there's no good middleweights out there than sergio being anything amazing.

    Incorrect...

He is a perfectly sized 160 pound fighter. @ 154 he is a bit drained but can still make it... @ 147 he would be totally drained

What last night showed is if you don't headhunt vs martinez you have a chance... Most of his opponents get so caught up in taking his head off that they are vulnerable to counters.... If you take your time getting in he can be beat

I disagree I saw him land a good few shots on barker through the guard early and barker wasn't affected at all and then he tasted barkers power which is probably average but it's the first time sergio has tasted a proper middleweights punches and he didn't like it not one bit.
To me sergio belongs at 154 that is his ideal weight I'd love to see arthur abraham fight him at 160 I'd pick AA to ko martinez.

Hes basically a big light middle/small middleweight.

The fact that hes only weighing in at 157/8 for his middleweight fights proves that making 154 should be no issue for him.

No he's an average Middleweight, but he's been trying to cut weight gradually so he can get down to 154 again. He was 170+ vs Dzinizruik

    Martinez was 170 vs Dzi

    last night he was 165

I believe him when he says that he can make 154. He should have no problem

He is and always has been a 154lb fighter. Fight night like many, many fighters may weigh 15-20lbs heavier only because Floyd and Manny are small welters they have no problem making WW and not adding those extra pounds fight night. Thats where fans have a problemm with, but my deal is if they can agree to a weight at the weigh in thats what matters and *******s know this, but once again they want rules bent and changed for Manny yet and at the sametime want credit. It doesn't work that way.

Martinez couldn't make 147 to save his life.

Martinez is definitely Not a true MW. But he's so damn talented that he can pull it off. He'd probably be even more impressive at 154. The reason he's at MW is for the prestige and for bigger fights- and because he's in his late 30s. It's hard dropping those pounds at that age.

I agree. The two legit middleweights he's faced, Barker and Pavlik, have outsized him considerably and have given him serious problems in the ring. the idea of jumping up in weight is not an option for Sergio. Like Arthur Abraham he'll struggle greatly with bigger, longer fights at super middleweight.

I know I saw Martinez in person at a boxing match. From my point of view he looked really small for a middleweight. That is only based on my personal perception obviously

This idea that someone is not a "true" or "natural" whateverweight. Is nothing but bull****.

You should consider that he spent almost his whole career at welterweight and jr. middleweight, until the age of 34 moving to middleweight for the money
