Its a lot harder to maintain a lower weight as you get older. Going up in weight is seldom if ever about the money.

He's definetely a very small MW both height wise and build wise. He has no business going up to fight SMWs even at a catchweight.

If he goes up, he's gonna get Arthur Abrahamed and that could ruin his career.

Moving up to fight in a division you don't belong ruined Tito Trinidad's career. He was one of my favorites back then. It was painful to watch him be brutalized by bigger men.

Martinez is a natural JrMW. . .any1 can see this.

Yep. When people go up it is usually cuz they are too lazy to maintain a slimmer shape. And 9 times out of ten it has dire consequences for the boxer.

    Martinez is a small middleweight.

Usually comes in at 157-158 lbs.

    He could easily make 154.

Maybe even 147 if the price is right ...

Not a matter of lazyness. As you get older weight becomes harder to lose. That combined with the fact that when boxers start off they fight at a weight that is well below any "natural" or "true" weight. There's a reason that Mayweather is no longer a super featherweight and Pacquiao is no longer a flyweight. It has nothing to do with them being lazy.

He struggled because he has that stupid Roy Jones Jr. thing he's doing. Against a boxer with good fundamentals and a high guard Martinez starts to realize why he needs to keep his damn hands up. Had Barker been faster at letting his hands go, put forth a solid and rapid jab, there's not doubt he would have ko'd Martinez. Martinez will be ko'd from what I saw last night by a boxer/puncher who's a step up from Barker.
