He's chasing the money. Just like Khan, Canelo, and all the other fighters out there. Cotto brings more money than GGG. Last I heard, GGG's opponents don't get paid very much. Why take such a risk for so little pay? GGG might be the future, but Martinez is still the more popular fighter right now.

One fight with Paul Williams does not make him a One Punch KO artist!!!

1 year ago, I absolutely agree.

1 year (or even 8/9 months) from now I can't be sure.

Both have been in a lot of huge battles but Miguel will be 33, Sergio 39.

Maravilla will engage Cotto if he gets caught, that's his nature, and certainly he can fight his way outta the trenches a few times, but if he has slowed enough that Cotto can close him down, can he do it for 12 rounds?

Both guys have a ton of heart and would actually come to the ring a similar weight. It could simply boil down to which has the most left in the tank.

Well said...and according to some it could very well come down to a One Punch KO by Sergio!!!

Sergio will eat a stiff jab every time he tries his showboating Sh**!!!

Way more of a payday if Cotto chose to get beat up by Canelo instead of getting completely embarrassed by Martinez.

I'm thinking that with Mexico vs Puerto Rico being such a huge deal for both countries, Cotto may not want to go out getting sparked by a Mexican and having to deal with that bitter taste for the rest of his life.

Sometimes pride means more than money.

Well he's managed to knock out big middleweights in Macklin & Barker aswell as beating Pavlik's face to a bloody pulp, there's no doubt about it Martinez is definately the puncher in this fight.
Also ask yourself how would Cotto do against Murray & how would Martinez do against Rodriguez?

Martinez is the wrong fight for Cotto. He should stay at 154 and go after the likes of Canelo.

This is easily the more winnable fight when compared to the other 160lbs and it also makes the most financial sense outside of Canelo. I can't think of the last time Martinez faced a fighter with the kind of layers cotto's has. Really when you scruntinize the match up enough Martinez only holds all the physical advantages while you can make the argument that cotto has the better jab to keep Martinez honest and the last person that has even the slightest clue at the importance of body punching and ring cutting tkod him years ago (Margo) this is a winnable fight for cotto believe it or not. I will say this he has no business staying at 160 if he does manage to win.

That will be an interesting fight. I favor Martinez, but I don't know how Martinez's body will react to 158. Those two pounds might make a difference, specially at his advanced age.

More challenging fight...Canelo and Sergio...Canelo can handle the 160 lbs with ease...Cotto is not a 160lbs...
