I kind of agree with you. Martinez is small for Middleweight but at this stage in his career going to 154lbs is going to take a big toll on his body. He is 38 afterall. So he is stuck at MW where he will be small for guys like Chavez Jr, Murray, etc. His abilities will only carry him to a certain distance and that distance is very short now as he is deteorrating. Well, atleast he gave a good account of himself.

He isnt overrated really, he has had some good wins I think they have all come a bit late in his career.

Martinez needs to take time off and heal up, needs more surgery, should do it ASAP as he is running out of time. Still, Void refused to fight him at 154 or even 150, Void also refused to fight Alvarez, Trout, still refuses to fight Pac, and will be fighting a featherweight instead. Golovkin would beat Martinez for sure, he would also beat Alvarez............

Look at this bozo! Cotto, at this stage to get YOUR respect? :patsch It will be a good money fight for both Cotto and Martinez and thats about it, nothing special in beating Cotto at this stage. And Golovkin? :nut You say Martinez has beaten no one of note, yet you mention that Martinez has to beat Golovkin :patsch Who has GGG beaten of note? Proksa? His first real test will be Macklin, yes, a guy you don't even recognize that is a legit win for Martinez. So if GGG beats Macklin it will still mean nothing for GGG because it doesn't mean anything for Martinez either, right? :-(
And Alvarez, I can give you this one. The Alvarez that fough Trout can beat the Martinez that fought Murray. While Alvarez is improving Martinez is going downhill. But I can assure Alvarez won't have it easy with Martinez. At 38 Martinez has better stamina than a 22 year old Canelo.

Maybe slighly undersized compared to Chavez Jr and Murray but they are HUGE for 160. It's an accumulation of things with Martinez.
    1) He's 38 years old
    2) Injuries
    3) Murray didn't open up enough for Sergio to whack him, and for some reason Sergio started abandoing that nice straight left to the body that couldn't miss.

He's on a decline I'd say, but he didn't fight a guy who was a walk in the park. The guy looked like a Clottey in there... Hide behind the guard and occasionally throw 1 or 2 punches when he felt like it. Martinez would have knocked him out if he opened up, or maybe Murray could have knocked out Martinez but I have my $ on the faster more accurate guy.

Honestly, if he fixes his injuries, comes back, and could maybe make 154.. It might be a blessing for him to look like he did in this fight. Perhaps guys like Cotto, Canelo, etc will think he's washed up, and want the win over him.
BTW: For him being 38 his stamina was a lot better than a 22 year old like Canelo lol. Also his footwork still looked good and seemed to have decent power. I'd say he has a couple of good fights left him.

I do believe when Martinez could make 154, he just couldn't get the fights he wanted, now that he probably couldn't make 154 (comfortably) he has to fight at middleweight, which at this stage in his career, he's undersized and a little faded due to age and injury.

Don't think he's overrated at all, and even at this stage in his career, I think he beats Cotto easily and also beats Canelo. Problem is, when he wanted these guys, they didn't want him.

Bit of both with age catching upto him- another thing you need to factor is that Murray was also vastly underrated.

He's a small middleweight yes, he's not a small 154 fighter as he says. I think he's a natural 154lb fighter and should be fighting there...he looks smaller than most guys he faces at 160.

Perhaps he has low body fat and finds it very hard to get down the couple of pounds to 154 so just finds it easier to make 160. I believe he walks around at about 168 so perhaps cutting to 154 is too depleting for him at his age?

Martinez is not overated and still elite. He just tried too hard simple :yep. he did it to please the fans. Murray always was a beast :smoke and he is elite like I already said.

Easy He is a small middleweight and is ancient, and worse He fight a style that need to get rid of, He is older now and the reflexes are gone, watch Calderon and Roy Jones both fought with a style that use a lot of movement and agility, you get older more easy is to catch you. Martinez need to change his style or He is going to get koed.

He is overrated at this stage of his career. 4 or 5 years ago, he was a p4p beast. Unfortunately, age has caught up with him and he is well and truly on the decline.

Great fighter, age is just catching up to him. Which bums me out, because I'm a Martinez fan. He's really only got a couple fights left in him, tops. It's been a hell of a run though.
